I'm amazed that it's this close.

Roy Moore leads by 0.9 percentage points over Doug Jones with 81 percent of precincts fully reporting.

    I gotta laugh at this
I was expecting an rather easy double digit win for Moore.

I'm not so sure that they disagree with republican politics so much as they disagree with electing a pedophile.

Which is... nice, I guess, that at least some of Alabama is willing to put aside party lines to not elect a terrible excuse for a human being.

If only American voters as a whole had felt that way in 2016... Okay, most of them did, but not in the swing states, it would seem.

Conversely I find the notion that it's this close between a pedophile and... someone who isn't a pedophile... is pretty damning of the Alabama electorate.

I just want to see them throw Moore under the bus. You know Trump will do it. It will be funny to see.

I assumed Roy Moore was going to trample Jones... I have a little bit of hope here, but I am still expecting Sen. Roy Moore. This is way closer then an Alabama senate race has any right to be though.

Roy Moore leads by 0.5 percentage points over Doug Jones with 85 percent of precincts fully reporting.

    Dallas county went blue...

We’ve established that this is a nail-biter of a night, so what happens in the case of an election that’s actually too close to call? When does the word “recount” come into play? A recount is automatically triggered when the margin of victory is 0.5 percent or below.
Jones currently up by 0.4 points.

What are we waiting for? We still have more than half of Jefferson County, Mobile County and Montgomery County out. That’s good for Jones. We also have all of Dallas County out. Also good for Jones. There’s still more than half of Baldwin County out. That’s good for Moore. The count at this time is very close. Hold on.

It actually looks like Jones will win it. Still it'll end up being roughly half of Alabama preferring a pedophile over a democrat.

Sean Trende from RCP reports that a big batch came in from Birmingham, knocking Moore's lead down to a single point.

Pretty much yes. It's still going to be a giant anchor around the republicans neck next year.

If republicans had any moral decency it'd be a landslide for Jones.

Amazing Sessions won this seat with something like 90% of the vote, and now its gonna go blue?

  14. #234
I’m more curious about the 1% independent. Could that be the difference in this election.

I would assume if Jones wins this it will be a moment in time; I wouldn't count on Alabama becoming blue in general in the future.

Dallas County just went 0-60. Most for Jones.

It’s going because of Moore not because they actually like modern democrats. I give it six years before jones is replaced by a different republican.

Being a racist and working to harm African Americans is expected of republicans in Alabama, but gosh darn it, those kids were white.

Are write in votes considered "Independent"?

Or is this some 3rd party candidate literally no one has ever heard of.

If a candidate wins by less than 0.5% it triggers an automatic recount? Oh man, this could drag on for weeks....
