Linda Sarsour accused of covering up sex abuse

This is a story that I believe will get more attention in the near future. What do people think of Linda Sarsour?

To me, her ideology as a 'feminist' who advocates for sharia law is absurd. She has been elevated to the level of a cultural icon due to her literally being the face of the women's march, and how things go from here might be a sign of where we are headed.

    https://nypost.com/2017/12/18/womens...-up-sex-abuse/
Controversial Muslim activist and Women’s March organizer Linda Sarsour bullied an underling to cover up sex-abuse allegations in her Brooklyn office, a report said.

Asmi Fathelbab told blog The Daily Caller that a man repeatedly rubbed his crotch on her while she worked for the association under Sarsour in 2009.

But when Fathelbab reported the abuse, Sarsour — a self-proclaimed feminist and co-founder of the Women’s March organization — fat-shamed the woman and threatened to blacklist her from political jobs, the woman told the website.

“She oversaw an environment unsafe and abusive to women,” said Fathelbab. “Women who put [Sarsour] on a pedestal for women’s rights and empowerment deserve to know how she really treats us.”

The Daily Caller reportedly spoke on condition of anonymity with another association employee and a political operative that worked alongside the organization, and both corroborated Fathelbab’s account of the abuse and Sarsour’s intimidation.

Fathelbab took a contract gig with the association in 2009 and claims she was repeatedly accosted by a man who lived in the same Bay Ridge building as the group’s office.

“He would pin me against the wall and rub his crotch on me,” she told the Caller.

“It was disgusting… You have no idea what it was like to stand up and feel that behind you.”

But Sarsour called her a “liar” when Fathelbab reported it and told her “something like this didn’t happen to women who looked like me,” Fathelbab charged, clarifying on Twitter that the the rebuff was a dig at her weight.

    Sarsour — a self-proclaimed feminist
Did she learn what feminism was from Harvey Weinstein?

It's almost as if Islam and Feminism are incompatible ideologies

I honestly don't know who the woman is, but the accusations should be dealt with very seriously.

Pretty sure the only people who do (or care) are those who want to simultaneously treat her as the face of both Islam and feminism. You know...idiots.

Unfortunately for them, pointing out scumbags in equal rights movements isn't going to stop people from believing in equal rights anymore than pointing out scumbags in Hollywood is going to stop movies being made.

To be fair, if hypocrites were to stop any opinion or movement, we'd be living in the darn stone age

Well, the accusation is serious enough, and should definitely be investigated. It wouldn't be the first time an employer allowed shit like that to go on.

Its almost as if collectivist ideologies always result in a small group becoming an oligarchy and everyone else being treated as disposable by those in charge. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that people care about the group as a theoretical concept, yet they apparently don't care about individuals who actually exist.

Well that is usually how power structures behave in anything really.

Well all Abrahamic religions are inherently patriarchal one way or another. Islam however has not had the centuries of criticism or forced adaptation/modification that Christianity and Judaism have.

Linda Sarsour is NOT a feminist, she just uses the word to push her own oppressive ideology.

Checked her Wikipedia just to be sure if the sharia part wasn't some misrepresentation just because she's Muslim, but it appears to be true. In which case, just lol.

Islamism and feminism are seemingly incompatible, but I think it's important to keep in mind that smart, dedicated Islamists are pretty effective at leveraging other fanatical views in service of the goal to push political Islam. That there are fanatical feminists who can be maneuvered into doing evil in support of pushing the overall ideology shouldn't be particularly surprising - it's not like it's the first big cause for which the adherents believe the end justifies the means. So yeah, it's an utterly perverse combination of ideologies, but that's hardly unique.

If by "collectivist ideologies" you mean "literally every group of humans ever," then yes.

Ha @ seemingly. Of all the sets of ideals on planet Earth, none could be more disparate. One is almost primarily focused on the subjugation of women, the other fights for equality for women. Anyone who purports to be both is a sinister liar and hypocrite.

Since feminism of today is a form of extremism, should we be shocked?

Modern feminism is certainly not just about equality. It's a sufficiently broad ideology that it means different things to different people, but quite a lot of it is focused on explicitly privileging women over men in the name of equality. This is often accompanied by bizarre embraces of ugliness (see the fat acceptance movement), rejection of femininity, and other ideological positions that I would personally regard as harmful to most women. There's plenty of nominally feminist activism that has literally nothing to do with "equality".
