Virgin Trains apologises for SEXIST tweet!

Virgin Trains have issued an apology following a "sexist" tweet.

Emily Cole tweeted Virgin Trains after being dismissed by one of their staff and called "honey", which she considered to be patronising.

She raised this with the a company, she was met with the response "Sorry for the mess up Emily, would you prefer "pet" or "love" next time?".

Many felt the response was belittling and the company have since issued an apology.

Really? The woman created a fuss over a simple innocent word used by an older male? Not really sexist and well, Virgin Train's message wasn't good but nor was her 'outrage'.

Muh safespace!!! People using words I don't like!!!!

Seriously that girl should run-up and hit a wall with her head. It might help with her obvious brain damage or at least knock her unconscious so she would shut up.

I wish companies would stop apologizing to these cry babies.
Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I support the other side.

    Did you read the story?

This is why Emily felt the need to make a 'fuss':

"In the context and given his aggressive tone I can only assume he didn't like being challenged by a woman.

"I wouldn't have complained if he'd used the term in a familial or affectionate way. It definitely wasn't that."

    Is she from California?

Why was she bothered by "honey"? I'm a guy and I have had people call me honey as well so I'm not even sure it would be sexist to begin with on top of being a nonissue.

Better "honey" than any number of other MUCH more offensive words he could have used if her story is anything to go by.

Nope, didn't miss anything, read it all. Considering that the train was packed and there's most likely been a busy day. "you go ahead, honey" is used as a dismissive phrase. He knows he can't process her complaint nor has he gotten the time to take care of it.

Basically, woman creates a fuss for being dismissed during her attempt to make an oral complaint.

No, you need to look up the definition of microagression. You don't sound edgy or cool. You need to stop being an ass.

Regardless of anything else, this was a stupid response from the company's twitter. As things are know this is exactly the reaction their response would generate and they should know it. Its either sloppy tweeting or pointless shit-stirring, neither of which is a good look on an official corporate account.

That girl looks like the type of girl that loves ruining peoples lives and causing a fuss to feel better about themselves.

I wish I could give a high five to whomever put in the tweet.

He should have just called her Bitch, would have been more accurate.

    Wait... you're bashing her?

She is well within her right, geez... Sexism is a thing I guess.

Calling someone honey, pet or love for that manner is the same as when you patronize a 5-year old for not knowing any better, it's a way to undermine a grown adults relevancy in the given argument.

And it's very commonly used towards women by men. And not rarely in a way that demonstrates that they look down upon said woman and think that they know better. You don't use a childs nicknames for an adult, its demeaning.

Honey and Love are fine between two lovers that use such pet names regurlarly, otherwise it is offensive to an adult, because it directly shows that you've no intention of taking whatever the person says as serious.

In my opinion, terms of endearment shouldn't be used by your superiors. Also, terms of endearment can be used as an insult when used in an aggressive way.

I understand where she is coming from, and she has a case with her HR representative if she felt offended. However, this is ultimately not newsworthy, and only the parties involved should actually care about this.
