Illidan had "plot power", it basically means he can do whatever the writers feel is needed to advance their story in the desired direction.
I mean they brought him back from the dead and retconned him from a villain into a tragic misunderstood hero, letting him eyebeam down a Naaru that should be more powerful isn't exactly pushing the boat out.
When Sargeras corrupts Illidan, Illidan is going to make a decent raid boss the second time around.
Thank god it killed her, I wouldn't be able to stand another super powerlevel being...
She was freshly rejuvinated, a bit like how when the titans had just had their bodies "rebuilt" they were far weaker and beatable by 10-25 upstart heroes.
Plus he's a demon hunter, nerf eye beam blizz it's mad OP.
Plus he's Illidan. Dude's absorbed the power of not one but TWO Gul'dans.
That's true, you can't just get up and disintegrate upstart night elves right after a [Light's] heart transplant. :P
I'm just wondering why she didn't make the transion to Void thingy when he blasted her... Isn't that what happens to Naruu when close to death?
Was this explained anywhere?
Madness will consume you!!!
You said it yourself, it happens when a Naaru is close to death. In particularly, when they are damaged enough that they started leaking / bleeding energy. Unless forcibly drained by outside factors, they still need some time (from just a few moments to much longer) for their Light energy to bleed out and Void to fill in. It's a gradual process, not an instant switch that triggers upon dying. Xe'ra was never at that close-to-death state, just went from healthy enough not to turn into Void Naaru directly to death. The same thing also applied to O'ros' death - he was just destroyed instead of turning into the Void / darkened state.

You can be super powerful but also super fragile

Because blizzard wanted Illidan to kill them, plot armor is everything.
Lok'tar Ogar! Death to the Alliance filth in the name of the Horde!
Wasn't stated in the Illidan book that he could be called a God, since he mastered a lot of powerful magic in Outland, after his defeat by Arthas, which happened because he underestimated the Death Knight. Of course God doesn't fit either really (because typical Blizzard hyperbole), because in the Warcraft Universe the Titans, Voidlords or Kil'jaeden / Archimonde (although the two Demonlords were depowered compared to WC 3 times) might be the closest beings to Gods. But Illidan was strength wise buffed quite a bit with the new book. And he still was exhausted after destroying Xe'ra, who was just reborn. Didn't even A'dal call or describe Illidan as a God in the book? So i think the cinematic still fits. Illidan should be powerful enough to destroy Xe'ra with some effort. And even in WC 3 it was said that Illidan got stronger than any of Archimonde's commanders after consuming the skull. Would be kinda hilarious if he wasn't able to do such things, if he wants to be the Jailor of Sargeras himself.
naaru are not strong in combat.
the naaru in exodar got easily beaten up by the eredar commander even before he jumped into the robot suit (velens son).
naaru do healing, buffing and support.
