Either forcing republicans to vote against DACA on the record or look like sniveling liars for going back on their word publicly. However this plays out this will be the way the government is run now drama every 1 - 3 months until one party controls everything or the super majority rule is changed.
The GOP is out of bills to waive in front of the public to distract from their failure of getting a budget passed. This time it comes with a DACA bow attached to it. Their lies out in the open for all to see. Come election season the Dems will voters of the time the GOP went back on their word and caused a "more bigly" shutdown.

Is it just me, or are a lot of commenters missing the key piece of negotiation - CHIP? As far as I can tell, CHIP was the one piece of ammunition the Republicans were trying to use, and the Democrats gave them three weeks of temporary funding BUT fully funded CHIP.
So sure, nobody believes McConnell's bullshit promise. But three weeks from now when the temporary funding dries up, we'll be back to square one - with one important detail, the Republicans won't be able to hold CHIP hostage anymore.
Presumably what the Republicans get out of this is breathing space and the shutdown monkey off their back in the short term. Really seems like an illusory victory.
Considering the popularity of granting DACA recipients amnesty, no.
Bad faith is generally more despicable to a public not known for its political cunning than gullibility.Plus them reneging on it works both ways. The Democrats look bad for being dumb enough to trust that promise.
And what makes the Democrats look bad -to you- is not reflective of public opinion, especially considering your bias and willingness to blatantly lie for the sake of it.

If republicans are insane enough to get rid of the super majority rule they know they will be so screwed they may as well not show up when they are in the minority. I really miss the days when there was compromise but there is no going back after Trump.

I think that is the point
It'll probably pass the senate but the big question is what happens after that. If the republicans in the house or Trump himself torpedoes it at that point there'll be another shutdown, but this time the optics will be absolutely terrible for republicans. They'll have basically reneged on the deal they made to end this shutdown in full view of everyone. They can technically say they didn't promise to pass it only to consider it in good faith but that isn't going to wash well with the average voter. It would be using a technicality as a get out and looks incredibly conniving. However if they do pass it much of the Trump base will go ballistic. But that's what you get for tying yourself to racists, xenophobes, and other deplorables.
I wouldn't have trusted the GOP any further than my noodly arms could throw Chris Christie in this respect.
I feel like they let slip a golden opportunity to demand anything they wanted. Up until today I did think they would likely force DACA through or at least force Trump to either sign it or actually shut the government down himself. I'm of the opinion they shouldn't trust the GOP at their word since that is frequently been shown to be worthless of the Obama era is any precedent.

It has to be deliberate.

I agree it's a gamble for sure but we are just getting started long term government funding seems to be a thing of the past now so we are going to keep doing this dance all year long. It will probably be even uglier during the midterm probably have a long shutdown then.
