Not surprising, as Sony seems to be the Gamers Console now. Xbone with all it's bells and whistles still feels like a glorified media centre.

Considering there is only 8 billion people in the world and half of those wouldn't even be able to afford one, was 500 million a random guess? Since it requires hardly any reasonable thought to realise that is a insane number.
even 155 million which they sold is a crazy amount of hardware sold in comparison to households that can afford it.
You're forgetting the PS2 had many factors going for it than other consoles didn't have. For example, it was the first console to be DVD-based - especially RIGHT when the DVD boom/transition hit. Videophiles also loved the PS2 because it was the first DVD player with upgradeable software. 100% backwards compatibility (with additional optional bonus faster loading times and shade-smoothing) with PS1 games was a huge hit/draw for it as well. (sadly, we'll probably never see that thanks to Nintendo making pre-purchasing older games on each new system profitable...) Lastly, the console at the time wasn't as expensive as the PS3/4 were.
Then take into considerations games like the debut of GTA3 on it - and kablam... god-levels of sales. :P
It was more simple math. Based on how much of the Worlds Population can actually afford something like a Videogame Console (likely less than 40%), ontop of a regular sized Family likely owning only 1 per 3-5 people, then removing the population that was either too old or just not interested in Video games/consoles and then removing families which owned a different console or PC instead of a Playstation. Even 155 million was an extraordinary amount of units sold.
Not surprising. PS4 hits a higher audience than XBox. Simply stronger exclusives is the edge needed to make such high sales.
The wise wolf who's pride is her wisdom isn't so sharp as drunk.
All of that is only the reason PS2 got to 100 mil.
The other 55 mil came well after the gen was already about over when they could make PS2s for very cheap, and sold them for very cheap in developing countries, and bargain hunters in developed ones. Sony sold an ASS LOAD of PS2s from 2005-2009. More then anyone ever did or will do again post launch of a new gen.
The $99.99 PS2 was the reason it reached the ridiculous numbers it did in the end, without that price point it would of topped out just a bit over the PS1. In fact I think 100 mil range maybe a bit more is about the realistic cap of any console in it's confined generation. If the PS4 sells at last 2 years pace for the next 2 years it will be at about 110-115 mil when most people expect the PS5 to come. Same range the PS2 was in when the PS3 came out, same range the Wii was in when the Wii U came out, same range the PS1 was in when the PS2 came out.
That's really the glass ceiling for a "great selling" home console.

SOrry it took so long to respond, been away. But little by little the apps stopped working because they needed updated. But like I said, I haven't been able to update it. It will download the update, then fail to install it, giving some error. I did a factory reset and when it starts updating, it still fails on install.

You can redbox a recent first party release(in this case SoC, or GoW in april) and it should have one of the more recent firmware updates on the disc. You can also try what Jt said above if you have a usb drive hanging around. Based off what you said I would guess either you're having an issue downloading the update and it erroring out, or your hard drive is bunked but can't say for sure without more info.
Pretty nice! Is Sony still selling the consoles at a loss or have they started making a profit? Because I can imagine their overal profit dwindling with so many jailbreaks out; I don't think I know anyone with a PS4 who hasn't jailbroken it yet and those who didn't jailbreak it, just share games by sharing their accounts.

Umm Sony was selling PS4's at a profit about a month (if that) after they released.
As for systems being jailbroke the amount is way less then u think. The account sharing feature is intended and still requires two PS4's to do. You can't do it with no more then two systems as well.

You might be right. I read Sony loses €50 for every ps4 they sell, but that might be old or inaccurate news, especially when you consider the hardware that you get.
I don’t have raw data showing many or few people jailbreak. I just know everyone I know does and the amount of ps4 images you can torrent and buy at markets kinda makes me believe it’s not an underground thing.

They where never near that numbers.
At launch they where already ahead once someone purchased 1 game and a PS+ sub. Now they're ahead on just system sales.
The 360 and PS3 where the last consoles to be sold at major losses, and that will forever be true. Nobody is in that business anymore. It no longer makes sense to go into the red just to "build up an install base" when you can stay in the black while doing the same.

Hell I would wager the PS4 Pro is currently cheaper to make then the PS4 was at launch.
The PS4 slim must be dirt cheap to make in comparison since they where selling them for $199.99 back in November. Also seems like in a few years Sony wants to hit that magical $99 price point for the PS4 Slim which will give it PS2 like post gen legs.
There won't be another Pro unless its some special looking one based on a game like how God of War has one. There will not be a PS5 Announcement this year and if there is one sometime soon its at the ass end (PSX) of next year.
Sony has way too many games coming out in the next couple years and a PS5 announcement will hurt those games. A PS5 announcement this year will also piss off anyone who bought a Pro (myself included).

Unless they add backwards compatibility, of course! ;P
But I digress, I do agree that we probably won't see anything be released this year in regards to new hardware. I'm just waiting to see where the roadmap lies and Sony will, no doubt, have a pretty good sampling of that come E3.
