New AI is the first breath of fresh air since Wintergrasp

World of Warcraft hasn't changed almost at all since pre-BC in terms of gameplay.

With everybody's bullshit about how the game used to be hard, game used to be challenging, blad de fucking blah, all they mean is that loot was less accessible, and in consequence, characters stayed weaker for longer periods of time, creating an illusion of difficulty.
Whether loot was less accessible because it took longer to farm mats, farm reps, because quest rewards sucked dick, it doesn't matter.

In terms of actual gameplay, barely fucking anything has changed in this game. Scenarios are smaller dungeons, raids have a billion new "difficulties" (read: ilvl gear checks), at the end of the day, you kill dumb mobs to get shit from them to get better gear.

Wintergrasp was the first real gameplay improvement in WoW, improving it by offering a new way to think and to play the game. Through siege weapons and destructible environments, it created choice for where there was none before. It offered new challenges and new fun moments.

The new AI scenarios (and hopefully, new AI everywhere) introduced in BFA will introduce (fucking finally), AI which think and reacts to you, just like in games like Halo 1, Division, Destiny and others which have long ago surpassed WoW's static dumb mobs. It will be the only fresh of breath air since WOTLK for WoW's gameplay. It will make PVE combat fun, which is what a video game should strive to be first and foremost.

I cannot fucking wait to see this game's gameplay to move forward in actual challenging ways. It's what an MMO of WoW's status and reputation deserves, not to be slowly let to die with tired systems and clinging to old ideas which were never that great to begin with.

They've been using AI in bgs since 2009 along with their rigged algorithms that they recently patented.

Hopefully they also give Escort quests some new AI. I hate leading a character down a tunnel, running foreword to attack a mob, then watching them RUN BACK to where they were before I aggroed the mob and continue their slow walk. Like, you were so desperate to escape you hired me to lead you out, why would you run back IN?

Hope they take some ideas from Wildstar. For all that games flaws. The gameplay was great fun because you actually had to do stuff for every fight. Not just group content.
    Aye mate

will be interesting to see how the AI performs and if it spreads to more content.. I'd be happy if mobs no longer ignored you as you slaughtered their camp one tent at a time...

and then it failed super hard because turning every fight into a raidboss gets grating fast

At least scenarios told a tiny story related to the campaign.

But who knows, you might be right and in that case, I'll eat my hat.

Oh Im absolutely sure that this is the case. Gotta chase the dragon!

OP: I feel as though an improvement to ai has been needed for a while. Field of vision could be a thing for mobs. Have a healer mob attempt to juke my interrupt.

In small group content, ie the scenarios, make threat be represented by who was most threatening, ie highest dps or burst not what threat gen you normally do. I know this would effectively make tanks poops for them, but it would also make for something more interesting than a tank gathering things up and then attacking in priority

I don't know what new AI you're talking about but every time I've seen a game try and introduce smart AI it's just incredibly exhausting, annoying, often huge HP sponges with 1shot instagibs. It's fine for bosses to have these abilities but for regular mobs it gets old so fucking fast. And no.. I don't want to be holding aggro because I am doing heavy dps because all that means is either I have to stop attacking and wasted cds or I'm gonna die. Woah so amazing.

OP if you think the advanced AI will beat humans in terms of thinking like a human. You are in for a colossal dissapointment.

Are you talking about the NPC's they're making act like players to mess with groups in scenarios? They should have just let players jump into an active scenario and get some PvP action. That would really make PvErs adapt and get good.

It could perhaps be interesting if it scaled like m+ and instead of just numbers the AI skill increased as well, because they certainly could make AI that challenges good players, but as it is I can't see it being anything more than some adorable pvp roleplaying.

I mean this doesn't wholly pertain to player skill, many people have what you'd call ranked anxiety in other pvp games and bots provide a certain disconnect, less of a competition I suppose? Of course, if you've hardly done something you're not going to be great at it but it could maybe become a nice gateway for some people.

I'm not expecting skynet levels of AI quality, but if you've ever played Halo, Destiny, Division, you will notice that your enemies hide in cover when you shoot at them, they dodge your grenades, they move from spot to spot and try to flank you, they push when they're in strength, retreat when they're outnumbered, and sometimes even try to interrupt your actions (something I would definitely like to see more of though).

If WoW can at least have that, it would make PVE combat so much more exciting, it would even make leveling fun again, just because the level of challenge you get from lvl 1 enemies would be the same as the ones at lvl 120.

Thought seeing how many people hate PVP in this game (it may just be another vocal minority though, will never know until Blizzard doesn't do some official fucking polls), there'll probably be an outcry because suddenly the game takes constant skill instead of them being able to roflstomp through content to satisfy their power trip fantasy.

Remember when Blizzard made enemies scale in HP with your gear score in Legion and people got pissed of because they didn't feel uber powerful anymore? Well it was a shit solution from Blizzard, but I wouldn't be surprised if people complained that "BUT MY GEAR LVL IS 666666666 HOW CUM I STILL HAVE TO THINK WHILST KILLING BEGINNER ZONE ENEMIES HNNGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH."
