Gaming Build. $2k budget (already have GPU)

    Hello:

I want to build a rig, my budget is $2k. I already have a GPU, i got a EVGA 1080TI Black Edition.

I want to game at 1440 or 4k (if possible)

Games to play: WOW, OW, AAA titles, GTA, Witcher.

    Country: USA

Do you need an OS? YES

Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? Only need monitor.
I Need a monitor recommendation. I would like an Ultra wide, 30''+, 1440 or 4k. Not only as main display but will use it to play X Box One X too

    Thank you!!

For the monitor, check out the Crossover 34u100, its 3440x1440 @ 100hz. It uses the same Samsung VA panel that their ultrawide monitors use. Can be found on ebay for $499. Works flawlessly. I am not sure if Xbox One X is able to utilize 21:9 though.

$2000, without needing a gpu, since you already have your 1080 Ti..

You'd be about $2200 with the Crossover monitor.

If hyperthreading isn't your thing, you can save about $100, and get the i5 8600k. If you don't need 6 cores, you can get the i3 8350k. Any of these processors can play those games at 3440x1440 @ 100, or 4k @ 60 no problem paired with a 1080 ti

If you do not need that much of a cooler, you can save $50 and get the Corsair H100i v2, which works well with that case. If you don't like AIO watercooling, the Noctua NH-D15 is a good air cooler for $87.

You also do not need a platinum PSU, you could go down to a gold, I wouldn't go any further down than that. 750w is a good safe number for that build, but you could get away with 650 easily as well too.

I know some look down on this, but you can also get a windows 10 64 bit license cheap off of kinguin. I've used them, and it works every time.

You can save a little bit off of the motherboard and get the Asus Z370 ROG Strix Gaming-E for about $190.
You can also save on the case itself too, thats just the one I used.

Things I wouldn't change. The Samsung 500g M.2 SSD 960 Evo is just absolutely awesome. Coffee Lake seems to also like DDR4 3200, and 16g of ram is what most higher end gaming systems are running anymore.

I like this rig. I agree with the M.2. I want OS and WOW in there. Ill go for ASUS Z370-E.
Just a couple of questions if you don't mind helping me.

If i go for the Noctua NH-D15, which measurements do i check to see if the corsair ram you recommended doesn't get in the way? Or Corsair H100i v2 would be a better option for the extra $20? I don't plan to OC.

Thank You for all the help!

Well, if you do not plan to OC at all, then grab the i7 8700 or i5 8400 (if hyperthreading isn't something you care about), you can still "ghetto" OC them, but for the extra money, between locked vs unlock chips, OC'ing a coffee lake is just too easy to pass up the free performance.

If you you do not plan on OC'ing still, then just grab a cheap air cooler. I'll send you a pm. Most new case's have a spec listed for air cooler clearance. The Corsair ram, isn't very tall, but I'd still check it's height specs. I personally prefer AIO watercoolers over air.

The monitor I mentioned is also pretty amazing for the price tag.

    Check: https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15/comp

You have 32mm clearance for your RAM if using both fans- the ram is 46mm high. But the second fan can also be moved a bit to make room for the ram (as long as you got enough space in your case).
