No animation when back peddling and jumping.

Hey, random thought, I noticed there is no landing animation when back peddling and jumping. Do you think this is intentional or they forgot about it or simply not deem important? I think it's kinda weird they never made an animation for landing when jumping while back peddling.

Edit: I mean consistently back peddling and jumping. If you run forward and jump it has a different landing animation. Back peddling and jumping doesn't.

Obviously it's subliminal messaging from Blizzard to promote better gameplay from players. Don't backpeddle if you want animations that make sense.

I think you're more in on a topic of, 'not as important'.
FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

Well, from a player perspective it's obviously unimportant. But why did the art team not make a back peddling landing animation. They have animations for everything except that, or do you know any other movements that have no animation? Why specifically this movement? Especially since it's from Blizzard I would think they have high quality standards.

They used to. Not so much these days.

Maybe because that's something no one ever does so there's no need to waste resources on it?

Ahh yes, top quality standards back in the days of massive Bugs and ugly models.

Well luckily outside of tanking there are rarely good reasons to back peddle at all.

I know that it is not good or anything, I am just puzzled why Blizzard made no effort to make it look good as they usually do it regardless.

They just generally only build animations for going forward: Look at DH Double jump. If you are doing it while backpedaling it looks really awkward. If I had to guess it's because most NPCs don't backpedal, only specific large ones do if the tank gets too far under them from what I've noticed.

Context is important here. In the earlier days of wow it was higher quality than it's peers. This has a lot to do with the over all expectations of the MMO genre of the time, but also the general enthusiasm by the devs for the game.

These days many of the original WoW devs have moved on to other things. The newer crop of them are not as invested, and the ones that are are doing so I an environment where the game is already VERY established and I not prone to serious failure. Think about WoD. Widely considered one of the worst, if not THE worst expansion, and yet still had massive support and success compared to other games.

Added to that environment is the simple fact that standards for games have gone up. Competition is fierce as literally hundreds of games are released each day. And yet Blizzard can get away with being sloppy in many regards because people are too invested in wow to quit.

There's no question in my mind that Blizzard gets away with cutting corners that other games would be that upon for.

They probably couldn't pull off a good backpedal/land animation and adding it now would just feel off.

I hear this point made all the time, yet find it absolutely horseshit. It's literally people trying to pretend the only reason people play WoW is because they are too invested, not because they actually like it over other games. The same sort of idiots that continually post on a forum dedicated to a game they hate like some sort of weird stalker that constantly follows their ex-gf everywhere.

I didn't say EVERYONE is only playing because they're too invested. But enough people are for it to have a significant impact. It's entire business model and every aspect of the game is bent around getting you invested in it so you spend more time subscribed.

Ignoring that fact is simply not being objective about the game. But let me be absolutely clear:. That fact is NOT mutually exclusive from the game being fun. But I'd put money on sunk cost being the more likely cause of continued subs than fun.

It's clearly because the jump-while-running animation wouldn't look right if you were going backwards, so they couldn't recycle it. They probably didn't deem it that important to make one for going backwards, but yeah, it does look a little weird now that you bring it up. The way your character blips back into default pose with no animation.
