No, I don't mean making a backstory now, after the fact. I mean that they are lacking one, which is why they feel so empty lorewise. This means that we are in the process of creating that story, which we will watch play out (and which becomes the "backstory" from then on). So with a good amount of time and good writers Void Elves will come into their own.
There is a positive to this though, in that they are fresh and can be taken in a new storied path that doesn't require a deep lore reason to do so. They are unshackled from the lore requirements of other ARs/cores.
I believe that the cancellation of Blizzcon may in fact allow for even more allied race customization to be ready at Shadowlands launch since the devs will have all that prep time and show time freed up to focus more on Shadowlands development. No need to spend time with 9.1 showcases or a game client with some 9.1 content playable for the crowds. They can use all that extra time to make Shadowlands launch be as good as it can possibly be. They can even push it off till December without issue thanks to Blizzcon not being there as some sort of deadline to get Shadowlands out before so they can talk up 9.1. That may be why they indicated that they wont be doing any sort of online thing till early 2021. Of course that's purely speculation on my part.

It's harder to do because they can't just take night elf skins and give them to nightborne or vice-versa. The nightborne model was heavily changed, especially on the face, so the skins don't fit. Blood and void elves do not have that problem, thei skin mapping is exactly the same, so it's just copy/pasting.
That said, after we saw this skin for night elves, I don't doubt nightborne may get some night elf-like skins:
Like in this fan-made mockup, I really like the nightborne skins there. First and last ones are very night elven:
Whatever...
I hope Blizzard is just going to link Blood Elf and Void Elf changes together from now on. That's probably the smartest way to go about things, so when something is added for one add it for either both or add something else for the other. Kind of side steps a lot of the very weird ways people respond to these specific two player races.
Sure, that's why Void Elves were the most popular Allied Race and one of the most popular Alliance race period. Because people cared about their abortion of a lore.
Outside of forum grognards, it's always been about the model. VEs will barely get any more lore in Shadowlands, but you watch their player count skyrocket even higher just because people can be fair skinned now.
Well could be either the final nail in the coffin or leave things open for official High Elves in the future...
Pretty much!!
Just like @Alixie is pointing out in her comment. The main comment to oppose High Elves was "they're the same race!" looks like that backfired and because indeed they are the same race they get access to the same or almost same customization options.
Big one being human skin ranges!
I like how green eyes are not available on the void elves, and silver not on the blood elves
Wait does silver on the void elves mean they are going to give a stronger night elf connection?
You basically saying: I want nightborne on the Alliance, with just the ear difference being their major flaw.. no, Nightborne are unique because: Arcane tattoos, slim body, differnt pose. lets just not do what you are saying and leave them alone. Besides, they are a completely differnt race now.. They are not even directly connected anymore in that sense. quoted: Nightborne are still not a subrace of Night Elves with a different level of nightelvennessness. They are their own separate race as stated by both their Legion cinematic and the Chronicle v1.
So there is no reason to even start talking about what just happend with void elves and blood elves.
Please for the love of god please try to come up with something unique for night elves and make sense in the story, this void/blood elf story we got tonight is making many people head spin, get some sleep and come back tomorrow with a better idea.
Did you just say this because mace was saying this in the other thread? I directly copied it here, because i think it's the worst idea 0f 2020 so far.

Looks like they are trying to please both sides
Anemo: traveler, Sucrose
Pyro: Yanfei, Amber, diluc, xiangling, thoma, Xinyan, Bennett
Geo: Noelle, Ningguang, Yun Jin, Gorou
Hydro: Barbara, Zingqiu, Ayato
Cyro: Shenhe, Kaeya, Chongyun, Diona, Ayaka, Rosaria
Electro: Fischl, Lisa, Miko, Kujou, Raiden, Razor
Hair colour too all but green should port over to the Nightborne, and body size. To this day i can't stomack rolling a male nighborne warrior , hunter or the new DK I ignored because of the body size .
I think the Arcan'dor should have had some bigger effects in time, one does think that if it is the arcane imbalance from reckless use of Nightwell energy that broke the nightborne, the arcan'dor fix is going to be able to heal more than prevention from turning into withered. We are going to get some nightborne eating lots of normal food and training much harder aren't we. Some would have gained their original body weight, natural colour returning to their hair - the blues, silvers and purples are all the arcane /night range so they should have them.
Similarly for NElves, I have a had time believing Shen'dralar types are muscled Mary's the regular night elf toon is. Sure some of the Darnassian recruits and returned highborne from 10k years that had been druids or doing other things, some Moonguard returnees too because they are a military outfit, but general highborne? Muscly? doesn't really fit the bill as the norm. Sure some exceptions - but the option would be nice.
