Any Windows/Network pros out there?

Need help with my hosts file, recently encountered problems where I cannot access my hotmail email and I have pin pointed the cause as to being blocked by my hosts file. I done a google search to see what a hosts file should look like (As I was wondering why mine contained so much, microsoft stuff especially) and I was kind of horrified.
I use a legitimate copy of Windows 10 Professional so I dont understand why all these entries are there, I certainly did not add them manually.

I would honestly
1. just copy everything and save it into a new text file.
2. Delete everything in your host file that isn't on a line with # as the start of the line.
3. Try hotmail

Ive never seen a host file like that, but Ive never used 10.
Not a networking genius, however, the only reason something would be adding IP connections through the 0.0.0.0 address is if you have some kind of program trying to speed up internet connections because 0.0.0.0 could technically be faster than 127.0.0.1 because there is no wait for timeout resolutions.

If it doesn't work, and you find you are having connection problems, just repaste the long list back into your host file, and someone more knowledgeable will have to reply

A default hosts file is basically empty (sans a few comments on how to use it). Sounds to me like you may have run some of those tools that claim to make Windows more secure or faster or something which added all those entries.

If that's not your style then maybe buy a domain and use it with Zoho or Yandex who both provide free email hosting with your custom domain.

Email provider is irrelevant to a fucky hostfile, which is why no one brought it up.

OT: Just delete every line that doesn't start with #. As you had to look up what one looks like it's safe to assume you weren't using it for any sort of custom connections/VPN connections so the odds of it breaking something is very slim.

My hosts file has almost 15000 lines, only a few indirectly related to Microsoft though.

Just rename the hosts file to hosts2 or something that isnt "hosts", and see if that resolves.

Marking them as 0.0.0.0 is used for blocking advertising websites. If you have some ad site as 0.0.0.0, it won't load them.... Additionally, if a website like microsoft.com or anything useful is that it won't load. Since a TON of microsoft stuff is blocked, its probably the issue.

Yeah, that looked rather like you installed some kind of Windows telemetry tracking disabler. By the way, Windows and Microsoft services ignore the hosts file anyway I once added the bing.com to my hosts file and both Cortana and Edge were still able to deliver search results via Bing.
