I can understand them wanting to keep the basic systems testing clear without getting tonns of false bug reports because some addon messed it up. That is still no excuse for the poor healing interface in wow though.

If you switch to the raid frames even in group content, and customize them a bit, set yourself up with mouseover macros, healing is really quite ok even without addons.
The first thing I'll install is my bag addon though, I really don't like the 5 individual bags.
You can make mouseover macros and keybinds for Shift, Control and Alt clicks. Regular clicks can too, but I would not suggest that, since you would have to remap interactions with targets/npc's
Addons should´nt be an option this early in the development - The whole intent of the testing is to find the bugs and weaknesses, so you won´t need an addon to make it playable.
That is why its called addons, and not features.
Imho. the MVP and whole testing phase would suffer, in any product, if you allow addons..
But dont worry, addons will be allowed in a couple of month or so, when more people get access to the Beta.
EDIT: MVP = Minimal Viable Product.
I do wish there were pristine servers where no addons are allowed. I think it would feel like a different game when no one has their DBM, BW, WA or TMW, or anything else really. Just a move anything enabled by blizz to move their default UI elements. I think it would be an interesting thing to try.
I like addons, but i also think they ruin much about the game.
Anyways, about the alpha... i'm sure they have a good reason. They are the devs afterall.
I quit raiding mythic after last expac. We cleared all the content the game has to offer. I have never used addons to heal. I've never struggled with the interface. Sure, it could be better, but I can play without "healing" addons just fine. Hell, I didn't even use decursive in the vanilla days on shit like chromaggus. Shift + 3 + cleanse FTW.
Quit making excuses for people who use crutches that can walk perfectly fine on their own.
If Blizzard only hands you a tooth brush for driveway cleaning, then that's an issue with the default interface and should be brought to their attention. They're not going to give you the specialised autoscrubber the addon does, but it should at least be a proper cleaning brush.
People have a tendency to confuse what they need with what they want.
It is a needed limitation of Alpha TESTING. The main purpose of the Alpha is for Blizzard to have a larger player base testing for bugs. If you've got addons running, it becomes more difficult to determine if the bug you're experiencing is from the add on or is an actual issue Blizzard needs to address, so no add ons. Like no one thinks they shouldn't allow add ons in the live game, but as far as alpha testing, the only way to do it is with no add ons. If that doesn't work for you, then play on live instead of in a test environment. Or wait until they open the test environment for add ons.
I think it's a good thing that in the Alpha, they don't allow addons. You're there to test the game out, see that everything works. If you use addons, you might end up overlooking some things that needs attention.
The issue is , that blizzard is responsible to make a good working product. You are invited to the alpha testing, to test out the game they are making, not the addons that come with it. What if a addon is actually breaking some parts of the game and you make a note about it? It is just adding extra unwanted work for them. You test the game vanilla style, because then you can test how the game is intented to be played and if THEN bugs arise. Otherwise you have everyone with outdated addons complaining that the game is not working. Not to speak about the FPS lag that it might bring.
If you cannot play without that addon, the alpha testing is not a place for you. In beta, they allowed most addons to work however. Try there!
