Tell Me Why Warlocks Are Fun For You

One of the top classes I want to concentrate on in BFA may very well be the Warlock, the other two being Hunter (Horde), Druid (Alliance) and Rogue (Alliance). HOWEVER! There are some things about the class that I'm very concerned about. While for my own reasons I'm very salty about not being able to earn the Black Harvest title, that's not something involved with the class mechanics. What I AM concerned about is the soul shards and how they're continuing to be a force of inhibition rather than empowerment. Also, the slap in the mouth to Affliction spec is rather troubling because it plays pretty stable right now, if really repetitive. Taking away a stable playstyle is really risky for the state of a class. While I'm excited about Demonology, like everyone else I hope, Destruction and Affliction seem to be sort of "skating by" specs rather than powerful choices to match their fantasies. I hope I'm wrong!

But as the title says, tell me why Warlocks are fun for you and what you think of the changes seen the most current beta builds.

What a useless and incorrect comment. Waste of space.

I agree with you OP. For me personally it's mostly the fantasy and also the fact that it has been my main throughout so many expansions dating all the way back to vanilla.
Right now I don't think Ill touch affliction much, it's too boring. Destruction is fun'ish, but theres just too many small issues that I can't qute get over.
Demonology so far seems great playstyle wise. Just hope its just too heavily nerfed come numbers scaling.

    - The fantasy
    - The ability to solo easily ( drain life, voidwalker )
    - The utility : summon player, healthstone ( 25% now, 40% for BFA ), pet's active ( dispell, cut, charm...) unending breath ( cool in some situations )
    - Pets are cool and mostly they will be equal with 8.0 ( destro with fel succubus op )
    - Tons of glyphs
    - fel fire quest ( not difficult now but still cool)
    - New badass animation (demonbolt a bit too small)
    - Really nice sets for mog

Swiss army knife. I can do whatever I feel like: Solo, 5-mans of every level, Raids.
Summoning/Combat rezzes/Health stones (dubbed Urinal Cakes by my guild) are always extremely handy.

    this will change in bfa

I like the overall fantasy of the class. Also a strong solo aspect is always appealing to me.

About the changes in BFA. Demo feels so amazing to play now. After what we had in Legion this spec is really awesome how it plays in bfa. Will probably be my main spec going forward even if they would nerf the shit out of it i just like it so much now.

Nah. I have a 120 warlock on the beta, and he melts faces just fine. Affliction still needs some work, but demo and destro does just fine.
We also got AE stun baseline.

Disclaimer no tuning pass yet yadda yadda yadda.

But our utility set still there.

In between awesome aesthetics, cool theme, epic self-sustain and resilience - there is a lot to like about playing warlock.

    They are not.
In legion i played mostly a warlock. Mostly affliction.
I also played fury warrior, bm hunter, monk and DH.

Honestly, combat in WoW is extremelly boring.
Compared to games like Neverwinter or GW2.
(both of which have different types of combat obviously, but just saying)
It's a wack-a-mole of procs, mostly just following the correct rotations,
and generally "playing the UI" instead of "playing the fight".
Blizzard needs to realize this is no longer 2004.

The only classes/specs that are somewhat fun (imo) are:
Demon hunters, fury warrior, followed by monk, followed much further down by BM hunter.
I assume rogues is fun. but i havent played one in legion.
Warlocks are at the very bottom, with non-disc priests.

    Casters are super boring, and

You're totally right about the combat being about playing the UI and not the fight. HOWEVER, we have to realize Blizz isn't going to update the engine... EVER. In lieu of that fact, I think Blizz should at least consider working away from GCD instead of enforcing it. GCD is the safe, mainstream way of throttling down on gameplay to make it accessible for everyone, and even then, it makes me stare at my bars rather than what's happening with the fight, like you said.

Honestly, and I'm not afraid to say it, I haven't been comfortable with my bar configuration for YEARS now and since they change things all the time, I spend at least 75% solid of my time in combat looking at my action bars rather than enjoying the fights. It also makes "standing in fire" a real possibility, so there's a sinister logic to the abilities and mechanics in this game. Blizz KNOWS it's not "fun" combat as it is, but a LOT of players are so groomed to accept this that we the players have to create our own fun from accepting this flaw and working around it.

But anyway.... I think I'll play a Warlock for a while during BFA, just to try it out. As a roleplayer however, I'm very disappointed in the lack of the title, the green orbs and not being able to name my demons.

As a roleplayer, you can give yourself whatever title you choose with MRP, you have no right to the green orbs as they belonged to a mage, and have no right to name the demons because they're sentient beings with pre-existing names. Binding a demon doesn't give you the right to call him Dave.

As for what I enjoy on my lock, it's the demon commander fantasy. Getting a demon army to do my work for me is a lot of fun.

Because fire & shadow & demons is visually exciting and I love playing the tanky caster. The gameplay varies over time but the theme remains great.

I solved that by using auras that appear when an ability is usable (as long as I'm in combat).

Before I started using this system it was very annoying to play classes with short CD's in the rotation (like Ret Pala in WotLK, where you had to spam 4 short CD's all the time), coz I had to stare all the time at the action bars to see what was available to use, now I barely look, it was totally a game changer for me.

I keep coming back to my Warlock time and time again, I've tried to main other characters but none really satisfy me as much as my lock.

    - Range class, I don't think I can do melee as well as I used to
    - Ability to do decent damage in a variety of scenarios
    - Can quest and solo quite well, I like how resilient we feel
    - Corruptor rainment!!!!
    - Specs that present enough of a different flavour to keep it interesting
    - Class fantasy, summoning demons and just being a general badass is rad
    - Not a mage lol!

I love to ply a Warlock (Affliction 4 lyfe) because people then think I am a baby eating satanist.

    Just kidding!

I just love to be a dark demon boy and spread my evil powers to another, maybe it has something to do with my love for horror movies and metal, I don't know, I am playing my lock since the realease of Cata and would never change my main.

Do i even need to say why i find demonolgy in BFA cool?
But we are demonic generals and it plays well and flows well unlike legion demo lock, but the idea of summoning armies of all types of demons... so great, i love it.
sadly soul fire (that has allways been a demo spell) is now in destro instead of demo...

I think I'm one of the few people who enjoy the gameplay of managing dots on several enemies at once. I've generally loved bosses that I could play Writhe in Agony on in this expansion. Demonology is a hell of a good time in PvP and on stacked aoe fights. I've found Destruction to be pretty boring even in MoP when it was overpowered.

I like to be able to help the raid out with gateways and health stones, but I wish they would do away with the fucking summons. It just gives every pug I join an excuse to be lazy and/or trash talk me for not getting to the instance fast enough while they are not even on the same continent. Playing on non-warlock characters, I also notice that pugs tend to stop inviting people and just pull when they have no summons instead of waiting 10 more minutes between bosses to see who they else they can get.
