Yeah, I know that. I didn't speak English particularly well when I went there to study but I could make myself understood but people still mocked me for how I spoke English. If their expectation is that people achieve native level fluency in a language then they're crazy.
I don't know the recipe for success, but I know that the recipe for failure is trying to please everyone.

Well, two things - ''Asians are not the face of Australia'' is racist.
Demanding that immigrants learn the dominant language of the land is good.
The two are not the same.
Especially when English is perhaps the crappiest language to try to learn. Honestly, I applaud anyone who learns English as a second(or third or whatevs) language. It's inconsistent as fuck thanks to literally being the language equivalent of a mutt.
Example 1: read and read have different meanings
Example 2: trough and off ryhme but dough and off don't ryhme
Example 3: de- means 'to remove'; -er means 'one who'; so deliver means... one who removes life?? wtf
etc. etc.
I agree with the posters...
come to our country... speak our language...
how would they like it if we came to their country, took-over their cities and changed their stores, restaurants, etc... to our language... bought all their property...forced them out of where they grew up... changed their schools to cater to us, etc.... and then basically change how the world see's our once beautiful city, which is now a home for mainlanders.
As a personnal experience, I'm from Québec, where trying to get the migrants speak French is a sore political point. The conclusion came long ago that learning to speak fluently a language require considerable efforts from adults, efforts and time (duh !). That unless you pay them (a remarkably doubtful proposition) to learn French more they would earn in their jobs, they will stick to the jobs were a couple of words are enough
Asians are awesome though. My girlfriend is Asian (Chinese). <3
I love Warcraft, I dislike WoW
Unsubbed since January 2021, now a Warcraft fan from a distance
Probably someone Asian but not Chinese angry about not getting work. Most "hate crimes" that involve random posters these days are usually people of said minority group or some left winger. Like that black church that got burned down and had Trump written on the side of it, turned out to be a black dude.

The possibility that the fire was strategically accompanied by a “Vote Trump” tag to inflame further political and racial divisiveness is not new. In recent months, alleged crimes have been committed in the name of Trump and Black Lives Matter, the victims claimed, sparking initial outrage only to be later deemed hoaxes by police.

I can't really relate to those examples. I'm korean, what made it hard for me was the pronunciation, grammar, I was confused by a lot of words, when and how to use them. I used to say I'm boring instead of I'm bored until someone actually understood that I am bored and corrected me. If we would have had more conversational practice in school then a lot of the issues with speaking English I had when I moved to Australia to study would have been fixed in school when I was younger, before I went to Australia.

Remember when you could make jokes about racists without people jumping to their defense and screaming that you're not allowed to mock them?
It's political correctness gone mad.
So if ISIS conquered Australia, it would become rightfully their property and you'd have no right to complain?

Given how wounded they're acting, apparently it's the racists in this thread who think they're the victims somehow. Being called out on their hypocrisy must be very triggering to hypocrites.
