Testing to see if everything works well with large numbers of players on, mostly. Also more testers means any smaller (or in some cases larger) issues that may have gone unnoticed during their own testing get noticed and coud be fixed before (or soon after) the game launches for real.
Why would you want large number of players though, large number of players is not Vanilla WoW, for a authentic experience they should respect the original caps of the game back then, i think it was something like 3500 per server in 2005 at EU release. It should not look like mega servers or something like that. I believe that only with small population caps like in vanilla you might get that real thight knit community feeling again. If you start off with large pop caps i think that will never happen.
No, I do not expect any updates for the next 6-8 months. I would love to get updates or just behind the scenes workings because I think that stuff is cool. However, I bet they want to keep the spotlight on BFA, so it will be a good time after BFA launches that we get any real update.
Think it would be really wierd if they had nothing new to say at that point
We humans have to stick together
Why would they say no to additional free QA, though? It's one of the best ways to make sure your game works on a wide variety of hardware and identify as many issues as possible. Given that Blizzard already have all the infrastructure in place for easy beta testing via the battle.net app there's no real reason for them not to test classic realms the same way they do all their other updates.
I wouldn't expect much. Nothing thats going to take precedence over future patches for live just "its coming soon™"
I didn't read anything (skimmed, but search still works), about b.net integration. The best I got out of it was yea, old code, doesn't compile, old tech, old db schema. The rest was so wishy washy. I also got "deciding on old or new char models, the community will help us decide". If they community hasn't been involved in something as simple as that at this point, it's NOWHERE near having any real info to share outside "Again guys, we're working on it, but it's a MUCH bigger endeavor than you realize, and even we originally thought".
i expect a playable demo to be honest, with this being a between expacs year for WoW it makes sense to use the demo area for classic

b.c. its not possible to test same player loads and hardware configurations internally as it is via a Beta even if its a short one.

It hasn’t been outright stated, however it seems to be widely assumed that it will have bnet integration similar to how the SC1 remaster got it, mainly due to that being the platform they use to launch games now. There’s also the fact that they have referred to Classic as a “server option” a few times which, at least to my understanding, indicates that they may use the same client as Current WoW (also meaning one account & sub fee gets access to both) which would further indicate bnet integration.
So No actual statement, but I would say smart money says to expect it.
I'm expecting classic to be a huge focus in the upcoming Blizzcon. BFA will be long out by then and all they can reveal is a new major patch, while classic should be coming closer to release (I'm expecting Q2/Q3 2019). I wouldn't be surprised if they will announce TBC and WotLK servers to come aswell after classic has been out for at least a year.
I voted 'Yes, a little amount of progress updates', as I think it's likely they'll tell us they've finalized the team and worked out what they want to do big picture, and have even started creating a new client while referencing the old one. Maybe we'll get some screenshot teasers or something.
EDIT: What we really need is that WC3 HD announcement!
Nope. I am no expert in computing but from the little we do know (nothing) seems like this project could be way off. I'd rather they just made an announcement before Blizzcon to say "we won't be discussing Classic", although thinking about it now... having something to announce (anything- the lead dev's first childhood pet was a Labrador named Vanilla!) could lead to more digital passes being sold.
i hope they come out and say "nah, classic is cancelled guys. we can't make you feel 13 again, sorry."
No sense crying over spilt beer, unless you're drunk...
Since they will have to rebuild the data base, build a new client(skinned over Live client, they have said it make no sense to run 2 clients), bnet integration, bug tests, test exploit fixes. Many things. They are re-releasing Vanilla but making classic. There will be lots of testing.
Voted no. Perfectly happy to be wrong. It will likely be mentioned but whatever they say will never be enough and most of us already have an idea of what it's going to look like.
I'd be amazed if they announce a date although they may say something like "Next year" or something.
Hoping to be wrong but I don't think there's really a lot to say.
