If BM is so bad why is it by far the most played hunter spec?

Genuinely curious. Out of every 100 hunters I see while playing in PvE, 95 are BM, 5 are MM, and I haven't seen a single surv hunter in months

Shoot while running cause you do relevant DPS either way..you might not outdps the FOTM, but you are moving while shooting.

    Low skillcap also.

Really simple reason for me, personally: I have a nice collection of rare pets, and I hate the idea of not using a single one of them

It's the one that lacks all the mechanics people hate in Marksman and Survival.

I like MM personally. I want to snipe and not rely on pets.

Yah basically this. As long as you’re close on the rotation you’re gonna do pretty okay damage. Mobility is also so strong for BM that for newer players it’s much easier to learn mechanics.

    1. Unlimited movement. Minor macroing and planning takes care of whatever range issues pets may have.
    2. Ranged
    3. Simple, straight-forward. Can only really fail on focus management.
    4. It's not the strongest possible Hunter spec, but all these things considered makes it an easy choice for players whom do not give a shit about parsing and playing the optimal FOTM.

As for myself: My many pets and the unlimited movement = why I play the spec. I enjoy it about the same as MM, meaning not very much at all, but the movement bonus and ease-of-play vs mechanics feels better.

Hoping BfA will address the issues I have with both MM and BM. Survival is dead to me as long as it remains Melee.

Very easy to use, and most people playing the game aren't very skilled.

Has an almost complete freedom of movement while doing DPS.

Is the only Hunter spec with the ranged weapon + pet fantasy.

Speaking of pets, it has all the coolest ones. Spirit beasts and T-rexes oh my.

A good portion of Hunter players want to be ranged but MM is an acquired taste.

pretty much this, i like pets.

It's easier, it's dps is pretty comparable in a lot of situations (once you include things like high movement and boss mechanics), as others have said: collecting lots of pets that now just sit in a stable and die slowly of boredom, not as reliant on ilvl...basically a lot of things.
Personally, I go back and forth from MM to BM simply because I don't really have fun with either spec for long, and I can't stay SV in most raid encounters since I play Hunter and they have me do rdps things.

  13. #13
Cause lots of hunters signed up to be a ranged DPS with a pet and sadly that is only BM now...

    It's not "so bad".

If you take a look at logs it's actually very competitive at the heroic gear level. It's only when you get to like 970+ gear level that BM starts to fall behind other specs, and that level of gear is irrelevant to most people.

its a noob magnet. no skill required to play and collecting pets attracts casuals in droves. to be fair its designed to be exactly that anyway so as Borat would say "GREAT SUCCESS!"

It took me a lot of time to hunt and tame Loque back in WotLK...don't want to give him up. (Also is named after my favorite cat who I was forced to put down a few years back )

These are the pets I run with, this is why I BM.

Mostly because of pets from what I see, then followed by it being easier and more forgiving. Personally, I prefer SV.
