On one hand of course Trump and Co won’t stand for anything that’s not explicitly sucking Israel’s dick, but on the other the fact Saudi Arabia is on that counsel too makes the whole thing a fucking JOKE.

Most people misunderstand the purpose of most of the various UN councils.

It's not an award for doing the thing the council is dedicated to (in this case, human rights), nor is it an elite club for those who have a particular vision of human rights. If it were then by many measures of the Human Rights Council itsself, the US shouldn't be on it either. The purpose of the Human Rights Council is to put nations in a position where violating human rights becomes something of a public national embarrassment. It's not like the UN actually takes action these days on human rights issues anyway. The idea is to get countries to self-improve by putting them in a position where it is harder to hide their faults. By those measures, the USA is on the human rights council for the same reason Saudi Arabia is.

Most of the disdain for the UN comes from a lack of understanding its purpose. It's not an elite club where America powerful America-friendly nations get to run roughshod over the rest of the world, which is how a lot of Americans view America's position and purpose as a global super-power.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

I don't blame the US for withdrawing. Israel has its issues but to condemn it for human rights abuses more than the rest of the world combined is just crazy.

    The organization is a joke.

US leaving explicitly hurts Israel, because Saudi Arabia is there. With US, it’s an olive branch with hope. Without US, I’m expecting Israel to be called out sooner than later. Much like the ambassy move, the rhetoric does not match the outcome. If you want piece in the Middle East, leaving the security council, after the shit going down due to US ambassy move... is possibly the worst thing you can do. If you add that Iran has already said that without the deal Trump left, their missiles will be pointing at Israel and they have no issue with returning their nuclear program.

Trump is taking credit for setting the dominoes, but they are not set to fall in the favor of Israel’s people... neither Jews or Muslims win from this... which I believe is the point.

But, US was the reason they were not condemned at that pace. US leaving will permit more condemnation of Israel, at a time when Trump’s own actions have resulted in images of Israel millitary in full regalia, pointing guns at Palestinians with rocks in their hands. That’s not helping anyone in the region... other than those that have been making money on the conflict for a damn near century.

This is not leaving the UN. Just the human rights Council. The reason for withdraw is strange. Going with countries on the council not meeting standards, is fine. It’s simply true... But, removing US, who has often been the sole reason why no actions were taken against Israel, because you see bias against Israel, doesn’t make any sense. Because they think there is a bias, Trump will make it so there is no opposition in the council to the bias? Just months after moving the embassy?
They withdrew mere minutes before the UN kick the US out =D

To be fair, it'd be rather hypocritical to be on the UN human rights council while we're ripping children away from their parents.

The US is not the reason why Israel is or is not condemned. If Israel does something wrong it's 100% their choice, the US has zero responsibility for the choice of other countries.

We don't belong on a human rights council anyway, not under this administration.

What purpose does it achieve though with pretty much majority of the resolutions focusing on one country? what self improvement? what national embarrassment lol.
their resolution and their distribution shows exactly the opposite of caring for human rights, they should rename themselves to United Nations Circle Jerk Council.

The ever isolationist America. Only a matter of time before Trump withdraws America from NATO, as well.

Trump should just build a wall around America itself, in accordance with the new "The world is against us, and our allies take advantage of us. Except Israel. Israel is cool" policy.

Gotta lol, in response to criticism of the US by the UN human rights council for it's violations of human rights the US decides to leave the UNHRC. Talk about throwing your toys out of the pram XD
