I find people who have never played Everquest confuse the quiet stroll through the park that Vanilla grinding was for the soul crushing grinding of that game.

Is this thread about the rough grind in obtaining Perdition's Blade !?
Some will like it. Some won't. Those that like it will stick around. Those that don't will leave. Seems REALLY straight forward to me. But come to think of it.. the sheer amount of people that stay on these forums while utterly hatting WoW is pretty large.. maybe dumb will prevail and they will just sit on it and complain for years but STILL doing it. Unlikely.. but again.. looking at these forums you have to say there is some backing to the thought.
Probably either quit, whine on forums or suck it up and do it as others do, maybe they will enjoy it a bit as well.
For many people a daily repetition is a way to relax and find calm - or just chill. For some people it can be workouts, drawings, writing diaries, playing with house pets and list goes on. This also includes WoW grinding/leveling/professions.
Vanilla/Classic have elements that will satisfy this audience in a way more simpler way than retail does it. Its going to be great - count me in!
I think they will drop Classic for 40$/ buy to play- no sub.
I expect a lot of people will buy it- but not play it for long (once experience how Classic actually plays), so making it a one time price point will max profit.
The problem I see for it is that it will be too "bare bones" for modern players- lacking too many QoL improvements that most gamers expect in a modern MMO.
It will be a problem even for the niche "we want vanilla untouched" because they have been playing it for free on pirate servers for years now. It is difficult to get people to pay for something they have been getting for free.
Also, Blizzard will probably change some small things in the game and the purity crowd will get mad about that as well.
I plan on checking it out but I am concerned about the community.
Vanilla relies heavily on server community (especially since there are no QoL stuff like group finder). The community on my server was great during original vanilla. Everyone was just happy to be playing a game like this and was really helpful and enthusiastic. That it is what made it "special."
I am not seeing that at all from the current "Vanilla" community. In fact, I see a lot of toxicity and elitism. It reminds me slightly of the community outlook right before Wildstar launched and we all know how that turned out.
Any community can become toxic when in a hostile envoirment. This forum is filled with people who love and people who hate classic. When those two groups come together, this happens.
The community on the actual servers will be different. Since there it will be mostly people who like classic to interact with.
Some hostility will happen, since people have different views on how to play the game. But for the most part, people are friendly as long as you behave nice towards them.
This is the key, I think. By definition, Vanilla is "over," and with no surprises in a future patch all that's left are races to clear raids already cleared ages ago. Intense grinding in today's game is harrowing due to social and team obligations to keep up. But time has stopped in Vanilla. A player can decide to grind over the course of months or years if he wants to. Frankly, I don't see any other demographic at which Classic is aimed but retail opt-outs who want to stop for the roses.
