Microsoft Teases 'All-New Xbox Hardware' Announcement Next Month

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertc.../#35a3ee945dfd

Microsoft is heading to Gamescom in Germany next month, and they will be bringing at least one significant announcement with them. In an era where console generations are practically a decade long, any talk about new hardware is enough to make ears perk up, and that’s what Microsoft says is coming.

Microsoft published a blog post this morning detailing its Gamescom plans, including the following:

“Tune in on Tuesday, August 21, at 4:30 p.m. CEST (7:30 a.m. PDT) for lots of news, all-new Xbox hardware and accessories, and features on upcoming titles that we can’t wait to tell you more about and perhaps even a few surprises!”

So, are we about to see Xbox Two for the first time?

    Almost certainly not.

Unfortunately, even with the promise of new hardware, it does not seem likely that Microsoft is going to announce its next generation Xbox in August 2018 at Gamescom. Rumor has it we won’t see a new Xbox until 2020, and you can bet that when that is announced, Microsoft will have a dedicated event for it like they did with Project Scorpio.
So, what exactly is this hardware then, if not a fully new Xbox? The most common theory is that it might mark the debut of the new Xbox Elite controller, glimpses of which have leaked already, and it might be time to show it off for good.

Past that, however, when addressing the future of Xbox, Phil Spencer has made comments that the future of the brand was possibly a family of devices, rather than just one central box. No one really understood what he meant by that at the time, but it could be possible we might be seeing something having to do with that at Gamescom.

Xbox needs a win in 2018. It had a well-orchestrated show at E3 with a lot of big acquisition announcements, but in reality, its year has been barren. Sea of Thieves has been its highest profile release, and that was met with…mixed reactions at best. Crackdown 3 continues to look troubled and has been delayed out of 2018 entirely. Once again, the console’s lone saving grace is Forza, with Forza Horizon 4 coming this October.

A big announcement of something significant at Gamescom would be just what the doctor ordered, but we’ll have to see what they have planned. I know a lot of people love the Xbox Elite controller, so that would excite the base, but probably wouldn’t do all that much for outsiders who aren’t going to shell out for the pricey accessory.

Part of me hopes that Microsoft is planning for some sort of blockbuster reveal here, but I wouldn’t put money on it. We’ll know more in just over a month.
Honestly as long as it isn't a XBox2 then I'm interested. If they announce a Xbox 2 and the X hasn't been out a year that will hurt them hard.

Also a handheld Xbox would be cool as fuck. I guess we got a month to wait and see, I think its going to be a decent size announcement. I have a feeling its details on the Xbox 2 tho since they already talked slightly about it at E3.

They've already basically confirmed due to E3 this year that we will have a new PS/Xbox line by 2020. This late into 2018, I'd assume they're going to start teasing the power of new hardware. After the X, unless it's a special edition console of some sort, then there's really no reason to try to pack more power out of the X and release yet another revision this life cycle. I don't really see them getting into the handheld world, so my hope is that it is something PC/Xbox cross related, like letting me play my PC games on Xbox finally like I can with my Xbox on PC.

Microsoft maybe but Sony no, They even hinted at it being a late 2022 to early 2023 release. Sony didn't say anything at E3 about a new PS line, It was a interview a month or so before.

MS announcing a new console right off the heels of the Xbox One X release is a really bad idea and a really good way to piss off many people who bought it.

Ether way it has my interest.

I'm gonna guess it's just a keyboard and mouse.

It'll probably be a trash can, to put it in.

"Xbox needs a win in 2018"

    Who even wrote this article.

    1) You can still make money and be successful without "winning". MS needs to be smarter with their investments and stop trying to chase the Sony boogeyman that they likely can't topple WW ever.

    2) It's not going to happen as the PS4 has done ran away with the gen and the newer alternative in the Switch is eating up all of the impulse buys.

It is XBOX ONE SS (Super Slim), it has no disc drive and a much bigger HDD.

Switch is pretty amazing to be fair.

I hacked my PS4, no more paying for games anymore on it. Sony has enough of a market lead, they won't miss my money.

Knowing MS its their Xbox One X Slim equivalent. Gotta resell a current gen minor upgrade to the same shrinking consumerbase every 18 months. Its been their MO since the 360.

I wouldn't say MS needs a win in 2018 but they need to bring something in 2019. That something does not need to be another $500 console tho or even the details of one.

It would be a major spit in the face of XB1 users and those who bought a X. Like you said they need to stop trying to chase the Sony boogeyman. Honestly Microsoft just needs to be more like Nintendo and just do whatever the fuck they want.

But need to please there core audience before doing anything else.

I was hoping it would be the Elite Controller 2.0. Still hoping that part of it is about that.

It is most probably the Elite Controller 2.0

I'll stick to my PC that I built 5 years ago. I'm already extremely mad that I bought an xbox one when it came out and it's been in my closet the past year. Haven't touched it in a year in a half. I have everything I want on my computer and if I even wanted an Xbox game it would probably end up on play anywhere so I could just play it on PC.

    Sony's guilty of the same.

If I want optical out I have to go with the pro since the slim doesn't have it.
