Sounds cool. Hopefully they will add a third 3 spec within a few years

They don't even need to rework the current specs, but at least add new ones to go for those roles. Such as Obviously a beast tank spec for Hunters or just make the Hunter themselves the tank. Rogues would be dodge/parry tanks in some sort of dueling spec. Mages would be Chronomancers probably learned by the Bronze Dragonflight. Then we have Warlocks that either tank through pets or actually become a demon (not like the Demon Hunter one they had before, more like Magtheridon and those types).
I'll also add that DH actually have magic in their toolkit, it's not developped to the point of being able to cast from afar mainly for gameplay reasons. Illidan is actually a very skilled mage, before his change and even as a DH ; and, iirc, in the book Vandel uses ranged magic on a few occasions.
(Still I hope for a healer spec, one day, for variety and convenience )
I'd like to see a DH healer spec rather than a ranged one I think. It could be pretty awesome thematically.
If they were going to do a third spec I would want it to be a momentum spec, instead of fury as the resource you have momentum as your resource you fill the ball based on your movement abilities, Fel Rush, Fel Blades and VR. From this resource you can use your a damage abilities. Then it would split Momo off from Havoc where it fits poorly anyways and allow them to put a different final tier talent in.
Damn, what a revolutionary concept putting a.. *adjusts glasses and squints* ...hunter? into the game? That's groundbreaking.
thank you, those are exactly my thoughts, anything that gives them an edge over their enemy is to be used. i'd like a healing spec too, but i think fel and healing are too much the antithesis of each other with fel being the magical aspect of chaos and destruction, but if they have a cool concept for it i am all for it.

give hunter a tank spec and i'd be happy, but then Dh is still only 2/3rds of a class.
ranged fel magic as a lot of animations and cool spell types, it would make sense to put those into a class and they clearly have different ideas for warlocks

this i find way more likely as an explanation or argument against ranged DH specs than the others brought up before, thank you
the illidan books! very good read!
but to follow up: illidan is the first of his kind. he is THE FIRST DH. he defaults to melee combat because its the best way to harness the demon within. it explains this in the books!
and yea. before illidan... changed... and consumed the skull of guldan, he was a mage of ravencrest; very powerful. before asha ravensong was a DH, she was an archer...
very interesting, i will take a look at it, thanks for the suggestion

i play pretty much anything besides rogue and shaman, feel free to change them all, i much prefer changes to playstyles and archetypes than keeping the status quo for them. worst offender so far were feral and shadow, with their "strenghts" usually not being strong enough to warrant their downsides and in the example of feral, now they had solid gameplay changes for 7.3.5 which were reverted in 8.0, making the class again as stale as it was the last 8 years or so
Dislike the poison/spider theme.
I'd rather see a demon hunter ranged spec that throw fel-balls with his hands. Something like warlock/mage hybrid, but now with fel energies without weapons.
Ideas like this are why DH only has two specs. Giving them a 3rd is contrived nonsense based on no established lore, and adding nothing significant gameplay or lore-wise.
If DH got another spec the only logical choice would be some sort of melee drain spec. Feral currently holds that role so I’m not seeing anything unique. What you are describing sounds more liked a dark ranger.
I couldn’t agree more with you. And after reading the book it’s more than clear. I don’t see the hunting aspect on a heal spec.
I would prefer 2h melee void scythe spec with void symbiont for metamorphosis.
i was rolling my eyes for most of this thread but omg a venom-like symbiote spec would be so rad, big voidy claws and stuff
but would prob need some sort of insanity-like mechanic and then get deemed too similar :'(
