Nah we need to moderate the ones calling out the bad actors waaaay more than the bad actors themselves.
Not happening.
Some are buddies with the higher ups and some are alt reichies themselves.
Gen OT and Politics are becoming cesspools of outright alt righters and neo Nazis where the mods now are admittedly taking a more hands off approach due to not wanting to appear to take a side.
I've privately talked to mods and super mods and been given the same response of "we'll handle big problems but we can't take a side."
It's not about a difference in political opinion. But when you have folks on the boards advocating genocide, harassment and assault of minorities, and a ton of other disgusting shit that just get swept under the rug, or if they get banned it can take like a week of their nonstop posting before action is taken, it gets to be too much. But if you call them out, you get infracted on the spot.
I'll gladly take an infraction for this post because I've tried going through the proper channels like we keep being told and I get told to deal with it because dog whistling for racism or violence is "political speech" and outright advocating violence is "just their side of things."
WoW discussion forums, official and fan, all devolving into white nationalist havens will look real good on a Kotaku article. Because that's the direction where they've all started going.
And look at what good the hands off approach does, we have a continual shit show but still have retards shouting about mods being biased to the left and even whining about people who aren’t even fucking mods any more. It’s almost like those people that break the rules the most are the ones that whine about the rules being enforced the most.
Which is stupid, because when it comes to Nazis, there is only one side. You either go to war against them, or you're part of the problem.
For a country that likes to masturbate a lot to how they "won" the Second World War, you'd think the US would be a lot smarter about dealing with Nazism.
Cheerful lack of self-preservation
I think switching from a more lenient to a more aggressive approach in moderation also brings its own problems.
If the moderation was only banning the very crass examples up until now that are obvious, and now suddenly take a more stern approach it gets more and more confusing.
I still don't get this one infraction from yesterday. Sure the post was aggressive, but i don't see how it was different from many other post/posters that are similar aggressive. If they clamp down on aggressive postings now, i think we need stricter rules alltogether, because right now i can see where the argument of mod-bias comes from.
I would have hoped that there would be some kind of explanation, and i can understand the mod team that discussing this public is in itself a pandoras box, but right now i'm just confused as to where is the red line for posting...
The interesting thing is that it's not just MMO-Champion, they're just dropping the ball with moderation and selectively choosing when to act so they "don't pick a side." But basically every video game forum, fan forum, and even certain social media outlets are turning into outright white nationalist rallies with mods scared to act. The WoW forums in particular are bloody terrible, but they have a lot more players and the mods seem to at least try to clean it up SOME.
Obviously MMO-Champion is the only one relevant to this particular discussion, since it's on their boards, but it's getting fucking ridiculous. You'll get infracted faster for calling someone an idiot than dog whistling for murder. And going through the proper channels is a farce.
tldr everyone is a nazi for not agreeing with me and i am going to throw tantrums like a toddler and act like nutjob to get them banned.
Democrats are the best! I will never ever question a Democrat again. I LOVE the Democrats!
