They might be a trend, but not for me.

I like a skin being a skin, and not having tons of ink and drawings inside.
Some are cool and are well placed, but the majority look heavy, too big, too concentrated or missplaced.

For example, look how Justin Bieber is now... I think he destroyed himself, that he looks horrible. Just like all those extremely tattooed rappers. But its my opinion...

Besides with aging, the quality of the drawing and of the skin gets worse.
What if i got tired of that drawing and wanted new ones or to remove them? I heard removing tattoos is extremely painful, takes more sessions than when they are made, and some colors probably can never be removed.

Its a big NO NO for me.

fallasleep may be a bit hyperbolic but he's largely correct. Tattoos are becoming increasingly common and are a great marker of shockingly poor taste or low confidence. Similarly, a lot of people will wear very loud clothing, have extreme body modifications, or dye their hair a very unnatural hue in order to appear unique. They're all great signs that someone is probably ill-adjusted.

it's a much more mainstream trend now. a few years ago there was a study that said one in five UK adults have a tattoo now, I think it's probably higher now

My Tattoo is in an Area very few People ever see. Most people don't even know I have a tattoo. I have it for a personal reason. Tattoos aren't all about showing off.

This is a rhetorical question. Let me just address this right away. This is the answer most people will give.

"They look good"

Just like with everything about your appearance, you're not doing it for yourself. I assume you don't spend the whole day in front of the mirror admiring yourself. Whether you get a haircut or you buy yourself good-looking clothes, or you get tattoos, piercings etc., you're not doing it because it looks good, you're doing it because it makes you look good. For other people.

So essentially everyone, who gets tattoos is doing it cause they wanna make themselves look better, either to the other sex, or in general to get more attention. Just look at the sheer amount of porn actresses that get massive amounts of tattoos. Even the guys in porn are often tattooed. It'll be hard to find a guy in porn who isn't. That is because people find tattoos attractive. Especially guys look more dangerous when they have tattoos and that makes them more attractive to women.

So if you are getting a tattoo, that is an admission that you think you are not good enough the way you are. You have to modify yourself. You lack confidence in yourself. "I am not good enough the way I am, so I have to fix myself." That is essentially the same mindset people have that get lots of surgery.

Some people will claim it's because of individualism or something. Like the tattoos mean something to them. That is wrong. All tattooed people look the same. It's just people with paint all over their body. It's like being a punk or a goth or a skinhead. The moment you become part of a subculture, because you are looking for an identity, you become the same as everybody else in that group. You are conforming. Nowadays, it makes you more special if you don't have tattoos.
