    Trion Worlds bought by Gamigo

Seen this rumour doing the rounds today, can't find any official source or statement by anyone but some sources seem adamant that Trion Worlds have been bought up by Gamigo, did a search for them, they seem to be an MMO Games Publisher based in Germany and titles include stuff like Dragon's Prophet which vaguely sounds familiar.

**Edit** Looks like it's true, i just beat Brasse's official post by a few minutes:

Trion Transitioning to Gamigo, question and comment thread!

    Good morning, all.

There is a lot of concern this morning about our acquisition, but I want to make sure you know that the games will go on!

I would like to share the official statement from Trion:

"Greetings -- We can confirm that there has been a transaction involving Trion Worlds and its games.

While many of the names and faces you’ve come to know in our studios will remain on through this transition, others will not be making the journey. To those who are leaving us, we are forever grateful for your incredible work and contributions over the years.

We’d like to assure our communities that the games will continue on in capable hands moving forward, as everyone involved is aiming to make this transition as smooth as possible for you. We will have more information to reveal as soon as we possibly can.

From the bottom of all of our hearts, we thank you for your time and dedication to our games and hope that you've enjoyed the experience as much as we have. From spending time with you in game, to seeing you at conventions, to talking with you on livestreams and forums, it's been our pleasure to be a part of this exceptional community with you since our first launch more than seven years ago.
Please know that you have our deepest gratitude. As for our games, we hope you continue to enjoy playing them far into the future!

    The Trion Worlds Team"

I'll be here until end of day and will either answer or forward your questions to the team.
It has been a rare honor to share Telara with you all! I will still wander its pathways as an ordinary citizen. =)

Confirmed, and word has it there were big layoffs with only around 25ish folks left. That's brutal as hell.

I'd figured Trion was hurting financially, especially after the Defiance relaunch did a whole lot of nothing for them, but I didn't figure they were hurting that badly that Gamigo would be able to purchase them outright...yeesh. Hartsman may have done a great job when he was helming Rift, and Trions initial blunders happened when he wasn't with the company, but in the years he's been CEO things have not really gone well for them.

Now to find out what this means for their games, but this is pretty crushing. Gamigo is not the kind of publisher you want to be acquired by if your games are doing well and you're looking for growth : (

    Why would anybody buy that....

Given that it's Gamigo they probably bought Trion on the cheap (they're not a large/major publisher). They probably largely wanted IP's and tech from Trion, in addition to user data. Remember, Trion bought Gazillion's assets earlier this year so Gamigo is getting that as well.

Probably not a great purchase by Trion in hindsight, even if it likely wasn't terribly expensive.

    What "tech"?

An outdated as hell Gamebryo engine?

All Gazillion have is Unreal 3 to be fair as far as I know.

I fully expect to hear some if not all of Trion's games getting shutdown in the near future.

Hope everyone that gets laid off lands on their feet but Trion has been a shit company for quite some time.

Well Atlas and Defiance will be on the chopping block or under the executioners axe that's for sure.

Nicest way of saying this. I'm glad Brasse is gone. A condescending, snarky CM who should never have been in that position. I don't care if it's harsh.

As long as Brasse doesn't end up another CM position then fine. I doubt any well known game would take her with that attitude.

I don't even know who that is, I avoided using the Rift forums.

Was a CM. Not as much of a twat as Dahanese who went out of their way to piss off players but she was always snarky, condescending and closed any critical thread as "non constructive".

Luckily she will never find her way into a CM position in a more reputable game.

Defiance 2050, the game that should have been the home of disappointed Destiny 2 players. Almost as big of a letdown as Nightmare Tide for me.

It was never going to be anything special.

The home for disappointed D2 players imo is The Division or Warframe. Division 2 looks like Ubisoft are learning a bit too imo.

It was known since Beta that 2050 was just a very barely noticeable graphical and systems update. And barely anyone fell for it.

More like the game that should have been on PS4,XB1 when those systems launched. There excuse on why they didn't do it was fucken dumb and waiting 5 years to do it was even more dumb.

It was never going to be that. Not without a complete rework from top to bottom with about 3 times the initial budget. Trion did some good initial marketing with smoke and mirrors to make it seem like they'd done a ton of work on the game, but the second folks actually got hands-on and saw it was the same game, just carved up so it could be monetized better by limiting player options, things quickly went south.

I definitely see them taking a look at Atlas Reactor and Defiance.

Maybe Rift Prime and from a publisher viewpoint Archeage since it's likely they will get the rights from that.

End of day this is Trion's own fault they had to sell. They branched out into trash projects, they ruined what could have been an amazing MMO and they published 2 terrible games and infested it with their P2W/P2A stuff.

And it's clear Trove's "success" didn't carry them either.

Trion put themselves in this position. And now they are paying the price for it. Simple as that.

The moment I downloaded it to my PS4 to see if it was as bad as people made out in Beta I was shocked.

The framerate was a bit jagged, it wasn't a solid 60 which is inexcusable for how it looked and not much had changed. Although I had Trove on PS4 so I was kinda expecting a choppy framerate.

Swiftly deleted it so it didn't taint the HDD.

If there was one game I could feel safe in saying will stay around its Trove. The game is on Console (PS4,XB1), PC and likely wouldn't be hard to port to Switch ether.

Everything else tho I am 100% safe in saying is now on borrowed time.

Atlas and Defiance are for sure. Defiance 2050 flopped so hard it has less Steam users than Rift.

Rift I'd say they will just let it sit quietly for 10 years.

I don't even think Rift is safe.

But with Rift they could do something, They could shutdown half of it and leave the other half up. The question then is what half dies and will the game receive any content updates.

I could see live getting shutdown and Prime staying around just living off of re-released content.

Nah will be Prime that get's shut down. I highly doubt the sub income is covering upkeep at this point.

Live they will probably just infest with pure P2W to appease to the whales.

Sadly doesn't seem Rift will get a mercy killing. Or go into the hands of a company that will actually try.

Better yet they remove the sub from Prime and put the P2W shit in it as well. They can have their cake and eat it as well. No more content updates for Live,Prime living off of re-release content and a cash shop in both.
