I have used both a high-end TN panel and I am currently using a high-end IPS panel (both are 1440p 144hz). Honestly, I didn't see much of a difference between the 2 panels.

We have a high end IPS sitting next to a high end TN, the TN looks extremely washed out in comparison. It's just a personal thing though, some people love TN panels, we've budgeted about 500 for a monitor anyway so that was more of an "aww damn" than anything.

Isn't VA "the thing" nowadays when it comes to panels?

Almost as good looking as IPS, but with TN's gaming capabilities.

It's a midpoint between the two. It's almost as good as IPS at colours, and almost as good as TN with pixel response times. There's still no VA panels running above 144hz (as far as I know), but you can easily find TN panels running 165hz or 240hz depending on your resolution

Nah i have the newer Acer 165 oc 2k TN panel, I think it looks great.
Colors aren't as vibrant as ISP but theres zero BLB and zero light glare, dark/games at nightime actually look ok, like wont get any better other than a OLED and you can't get that in a monitor.

So, I spent more than I should have and this is what I bought:

    BenQ BL2480 24" IPS screen = 50e www.datatronic.fi
    AMD Ryzen 5 2600 X + ASUS ROG STRIX B450-E GAMING + HyperX Fury 16gb 2666mhz = 398e www.komplett.fi
    ASUS GTX 1060 6gb DUAL OC = 239e www.verkkokauppa.com
    WD Green 240gb M.2 SSD = 43e www.verkkokauppa.com

That display was so cheap I just had to buy it - my 2nd monitor is an old 21" so this will replace it nicely, might even replace my main monitor which is another 24", we'll see.

The cpu+mb+memory combo was an upgrade pack on sale. The memory is quite bad, but that motherboard is so badass so the total price was quite a steal. It's a 200e motherboard - and I figured motherboard is the most important part in keeping my system upgradeable in the future. It supports up to 3566mhz memory, has two m.2 slots, multiple gpu slots, better sound card etc. so I'm quite happy with this option.

With the gpu card I was long pondering between that and an ASUS RX 580 ROG STRIX 8GB which was 289e - the GTX was 50e cheaper and nvidia is a bit more reliable so I stuck with that. I was overspending already anyway.

The SSD is for my windows install, I guess it's a bit faster than my old 64gb ocz agility from like 6 years ago. Plus there's some more space as well.

Maybe our TN is just shitty, but we're going to grab a VA to try. oh and oled monitors are totally available, but few and far between, and pricey

Uhmm.. good luck, I tried one VA, the ultrawide X34 or whatever, the motion blurr was terrible and some shades of black like the nvidia control panel turned very red shaded, sent it back almost immediately.

Sounds more like a bad monitor than anything, we'll see.
