The fear of the unknown and the word itself is more scary for people. In the states you have 1000 times more chance to get killed by a lost bullet/mass shooter than by a terrorist. You can call non german nationalists nazis but since nazi has a meaning beyond mere nationalism you would often be wrong.. Not because they are not german but because in fact they are not nazis. Edit: In case that is not clear there are nazis outside Germany, there are nazis that were never German. But most nationalists are not nazis
