who cares about ilvl anyway ??

same people irl that care about having a nice body, or a nice car. Nothing wrong with expecting a return on your time investment. You spend years in school at the expense of being out chasing tail, making money, or travelling - you expect a good job right?
if im putting nose to grind stone, to excel in a virtual world, i expect it to show. and it has since the beginning of wow, until recently.
again, its the trophy for participation rule. The new kids that expect to have everything the top players do.
You might think im bias, of course i am. Sprinkled with some common sense. I mean, im bad at arena. Would I like some of the top end pvp gear, the titles etc? Yep, but am i crying for blizzard to make me able to achieve 2200 score as well?
Nope, u want it you get it - if you cant - tough. Except in wow ;p
To add some context to the OP, I'm very casual, play when I have time. I don't raid Mythic, my guild do some heroic runs and killed some bosses. I very rarely do M+ (the highest I've done is +6) and did world quests and until i got exalted with the factions then got bored and cant be bothered to keep doing them to maybe get a titan-forged piece. My mains Ilvl is 373 which reflects that I haven't put the time into the hardest or most time consuming progression paths. I don't think I've had the best of luck but I'd say that's fair. The OP and others at 385-395 have put a ton of effort in, end of.
Wasn't the sunwell badge gear at the same level as black temple gear? Admittedly not as easy as doing a world boss but on the other hand it was something you could get with certainty without stepping foot in a raid.
As for the OP, on average a mythic raider will be quite a bit more geared than most other players simple due to their base gear being at 385 compared to 355-370, with one 380 per week(which the raider obviously also has access to). Right now you can get gear fairly easily with assaults and the new world boss but pre 8.1 you would see anyone above 380 for quite a while. Most of the 0 mythic kills players you see with 380+ have played since the start as well and just done heroic raiding, mythic+ or pvp. You progress raid and get your gear faster(assuming you're at a decent level guild, which probably isn't the case with just 44 kills as you'd be close to 100'ish if you were in a top 100 guild, even if benched sometimes you should reach 60-70 at least).
Funny thing is, I stepped down from raiding in bfa as the schedule didn't suit me but I still play a lot, so the first few weeks from mythic starting to them finishing it they got ahead of me in gear pretty rapidly, but now that they only log for 1 raid and 1 mythic+ I'm actually outgearing them simply because I still play the game a lot, doing pvp and mythic+. Obviously my itemlevel is also boosted quite a bit by playing at gladiator level(or elite as it's now called) so if someone doesn't pvp, or only does it at low rating, I don't see them getting to 385'ish without a lot of luck.
And we have these in the form of achievements, transmogs, titles and mounts. iLvl just isn't important enough of a factor to distance yourself against non-raiders.
In truth PvP rewards are purely cosmetic since the gear itself doesn't give you any noticeable advantages over raid/M+ gear. As I already mentioned you already get exclusive cosmetic rewards for raiding so this doesn't really fit into the ilvl argument. You might think im bias, of course i am. Sprinkled with some common sense. I mean, im bad at arena. Would I like some of the top end pvp gear, the titles etc? Yep, but am i crying for blizzard to make me able to achieve 2200 score as well?
Players are only starting to reach those kinds of ilvls thanks to 8.1. When 8.1 came out, I decided to resub and level a priest. I've been max level for about 2 weeks on my priest and I am 382 ilvl and I have 0 titanforged pieces. Being able to purchase 385 azerite pieces a week, m+ weekly, warfront giving 385, world boss dropping 385, incursions everyday dropping 370+, m+ spam and heroic raid will easily make you catch up with everyone, but it wasn't like that before 8.1, you'd either have to be very lucky with titanforges or slowly get more ilvl each week from weekly chest and hope it's an upgrade.
Not like increasing power of your character is core aspect of rpg games right? And guy is right. Nobady cares about itemlvl anymore thats why wow is dead game and bleeding subs.

Do you understand that warfronts wont be rewarding 385 at raid launch? It will reward itemlvl which will be at level of new hero raid. What we have now isnt catch up gear.
He has cleared the content on the highest difficulty setting, by definition he deserves the best rewards the game has to offer. I don't personally give a fuck but i recognize that the reward structure of this game is pretty fucked up when over time RNG is more of a factor on your gear than your ingame accomplishments. Everyone can reach 380+ over time if they manage at least a single +10 weekly, beyond that it's all about dem titanforges. Cutting edge players do reach the ilevel plateau faster than heroic plebs however so at least there's that.
Yeah and? If its a core aspect it makes sense for everyone to be able to increase their character's power. Caring about other people's gear is not a core aspect of anything, it's just pathetic.
Yes it is catch-up gear. Heroic raid is cleared the first week and raiders will surpass its rewards quickly. One 400 ilvl item from a warfront every 3 weeks is irrelevant, and it is nothing new. Previous expansions had missions that rewarded the same every 2 weeks.
i like it, it hasnt stoppped me from wanting to raid in fact its made raiding easier and enjoyable. I hope they keep it this way in the future where you can earn your way based on how good you are not an arbitrary number
Our guild usually completes heroic, and then gets stuck on the roster boss for mythic. Even if we got the roster I think that realistically we'd struggle to get more than half the bosses down. As for my ilvl, I think I'm stuck at 370 last time I checked, with HC G'Huun down and 2 down in mythic after joining with another guild. I've done a bit of M+, but not much. I try to keep up with WQs but have slacked a bit with that, and I barely ever touch islands.
I don't think that equal ilvls is bad, in fact, it's better against ilvl inflation. WoW had ilvl problems as far back as the start of TBC (questing greens almost as good as tier 2), even though it only really got out of hands at the end of WotLK, Blizz didn't really address years later with shitty stat squishes, which was a horrible band aid for the real problem that hyper inflated ilvls created, blizz should have stuck to a linear ilvl increase per raid tier and expansion.
What should set mythic apart is mounts and unique armor sets, maybe part of the 8/8 achievement.

The way raid content is designed these days, clearing a mythic+ raid in december vs september/early october are completely different experiences due to the nerfs and gear increases everyone got, so I really don't think those in 1k+(or anything outside of top 2-300 really) rank guilds should feel entitled about "casuals" getting easy gear handed to them when that's pretty much what they are doing as well, getting easy 385 gear from doing nerfed raid content that they overgear. Depending on the affixes and the dungeons I'd argue doing a +10 is harder than most if not all of mythic uldir.
