California's demographics are such that minorities are the majority, and it turns out that many minorities - hispanic in particular - are actually deeply conservative. So were California to be made into Leftist Territory, without a Republican party to hammer at the minorities until they turn to the party that doesn't relentlessly detain, disenfranchise, and deport them, the majority of the state would splinter and oppose the now-minority governing leftist party.
