    Lightbulb More permitted video sources

    Supported videos include:
    • Hulu
    • Youtube
    • Vimeo
    • Dailymotion
    • Metacafe
    • Google
    • facebook
    • Facebook Shares
Sometimes it would be nice to post brief 5-10 second video clips hosted on free MP4 upload sites like Imgur & IMGchest.

Unfortunately, posting those links using the VIDEO function just gives you a clickable URL, rather than a watchable video.

So when making threads in the past, I've had to go to the trouble of creating a GIF, rather than having an embedded 10s ingame video clip; a lot of trouble for what should be standard in this day and age.

I understand that ezboard code is legacy and this site's infrastructure was probably made before MP4 existed (it's been... what, 20 years?), but still; it would be SO NICE to be able to post a 2MB MP4 clip of what I'm talking about ingame, rather than doing what I did in this thread and make a GIF that's 10x the file size and a thousand less pixels:

That is the thing. Forums are ancient code base that isn't even maintained anymore. I don't thing there is anybody left to do the required update to make this thing support any more video sources.

A very simple fix would be to allow .webp (or even aviv) images.

You can embed them (like gifs) using the default img tags, and they are supported by all major browsers while allowing (more or less) state of the art video compression (examples: https://www.bandisoft.com/honeycam/help/file_format/. All they'd have to do is add them to the allowed image extensions.

That feels like a reasonable request. I'll look into it at some point when things slow down a bit.

    Maybe, maybe not.

Chaud said they'd "look into it". That doesn't mean the change will ever actually happen.

Yeah, but like I said...Chaud just said they'd look into it. They might do so and discover something like that to implement the changes necessary would require a complete overhaul of the site.

When you do that, what link format are you expecting to paste? All of these are the same video, just a different URL:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/5d8Eyc7
    https://imgur.com/Pa9j6MI
    https://i.imgur.com/Pa9j6MI.mp4

i'd guess the .mp4 one would be agnostic to whatever the host is, while the others would require to be specific to imgur.

edit: if you add this feature, you might have more things to moderate, as imgur isn't a moderated website, you probably know this but just in case

I would imagine the one that ends with mp4 (that's the one I always use when sharing video clips).

EDIT: But in hindsight, perhaps the default https://imgur.com/Pa9j6MI may be simpler, as that's what appears after people upload.

Asking people to upload a video clip and then do further actions like right-click and chose certain options may be asking too much. Uploading and then copying the resulting URL is probably simplest.

It absolutely is, and is notorious for excessive shadowbanning.
