Elemental Shamans get mastery before level 78

Is this supposed to happen or is my character bugged?

Also, I do much more damage in Restoration Spec than I do in Elemental.

For example my Lava Burst hits for 420, compared to 333, and my Lightning Bolt hits for 494, compared to 310. When does Elemental become more powerful than restoration for damage?

I've been doing dungeons as Resto and topping dps meters, it's so weird.

I leveled my Shaman ages ago, so my memory is blurry. But...

lvl78 is when we get Mastery, I have no idea why Wowhead shows a Rank1 Mastery at lvl29 and another rank at lvl78. Was this a recent change? May be I will create a new shaman just to check it out today after work.

As for Resto hitting harder than Ele at low level, yes, it's been that way forever, since Ele's damage is balanced by their Mastery, and at lower level, Mastery doesn't exist. I fully recommend you to level in Resto spec, they have so much advantages over the other two spec, barring a lack of instant, spammable ability to tag mobs.

Resto is always hitting harder than Ele. But it does not mean Resto is doing more dps.

Leveling as Elemental until you get Mastery or Icefury is quite frustrating. There are barely any talents at levels 15, 30, and 60 that will significantly boost your questing / dungeon DPS, aside from maybe Aftershock or Call the Thunder.

I would strongly recommend staying as Resto or Enhancement until level 80 or so.

You get mastery for Chain lightning and lightning bolt at 29, then everything else at 78. I guess to make leveling a bit easier

Yeah I lvl a shaman not that long ago, stay as Resto until higher lvls. Everything hits harder as Resto and all u gain as ele is earthshock which doesn’t make up the difference. Resto can kill stuff in 2 lava bursts where ele takes 3-4 lava bursts. It’s just not worth it as ele. Plus u have better survivability as Resto, which makes a huge difference with warmode.
