I for one wanted them to take the animated Joker origin path, the one where he fell into some tank of some sort of red chemical liquid. Not the one depicted in the trailer where he went crazy cause people treated him badly but oh well, I'm sure Joaquin Phoenix will kill the acting.

Leto already took a dive into a vat of chemicals and it was awful.

Implying that his origin story was the issue with Leto's Joker ... lol.

I think I know why I personally have a bad vibe about the film. It seems like an interesting character drama, but not a Joker movie. From the way the trailer makes it look the movie could literally be called "The Sad Clown" and feature non of the batman universe stuff and would probably still evoke the same feelings in me. We will see if that is how it turns out, but that is certainly the impression I've got off the trailer.

Your "vibe" is that this film is not your standard 200-300million dollar film to make superhero film, its very much more a "indie" film in the superhero genre.

I mean instead of complaining about it, could look at the positives in that the superhero genre isnt gonna die out anytime soon with these kind of out there films in the same month end game is coming out which will break records. Its nice theres still room for the smaller stuff among the 1 billion dollar earning films

Thing is, that's not all there is to it - and I wasn't talking about Leto's Joker which I'm not a fan of. The one I'm referring is what happened allegedly by the Joker in the movies, it's implied that he may have been lying and there's some other stuff around that. In the animated movie it was really, really well executed. Check it out to see what I mean even more so if you like DC and Batman, disregard Leto's Joker though.

Joker has a ton of backstories, most, if not all of them are lies. That's the fun part of the Joker.

Also this film takes place in a totally different continuity, and is set when Thomas Wayne is alive.

Aren't there like, canonically, 3 Jokers now, simultanously?
After Batman become god and learned the truth about him?

I kinda lost track WTF was going on in that storyline...

Felt more like Penguin from TV show Gotham to me

Penguin, same actor, should have his own movie! There's a huge amount of creative freedom with DC films now, like TV shows have.

Sad that it took suicide squad, justice league, ben assfleck etc. to allow this freedom

I loved this trailer, I just can't stop watching it. His performance is amazing, looking forward to see the whole deal.

Elba doesnt know shit about comics. He types a comic book heroes name into Tumblr and finds some way to be outraged about them.

Like the time he accused Netflix of being racist and "white washing" for hiring a white guy to play Danny Rand, the immortal iron fist. LoL. /facepalm

Wow, this trailer is great, did not expect serious take on a cartoon villain. Maybe they will go back to the Batman Begins and The Dark Knight roots, where they tried to put comic characters into real world where they act according to real world rules (more or less ofc), without CGI generic baddies. Really hope they will follow that road.

I'm a huge batman fan i've pretty much seen it all.

I was never a fan of the joker's origin story being the guy that wore a red mask and tripped and fell running from batman.

I kinda liked Heaths ambiguous background. I dont think we really need to explain where joker came from personally.

Cameron Monaghan's Joker has been the best since Ledger's role. Had the production put Monaghan in the role here I'd feel more positive about this movie.

Oh gotcha, I love Batman too so that's always nice to hear. Personally what I liked the most about the animated story is the fact that they implied he might be lying because of the inconsistencies during the film, which were intentional. I also loved the way they did it with Heath's Joker, that's easily my favorite Joker. And if there's anyone who can match that one I'm sure it's Phoenix, at least in terms of acting.

I'm not saying The Joker is morally grey once he's acting as The Joker, I'm saying that the movie may portray him as a tragic character-turned-villain (at least that's sort of how it looks to me), and I don't think there's anything inherently wrong or offensive about that.
Tragic villain origin story =/= tragic hero becoming villain

You kidding that overacted, tryhard, B-class cringe fest joker. Hell no. Seriously this kid is less cringe than that Gotham Joker.

Do you mean in Phoenix's Joker? That would be cool.
