Oh if Art Bell we’re alive today.
Apparently Trump and Congress are confirming alien contact. Lol

Of course we need a Space Force. After all, the International Space Station or ISS is just one "I" away from ISIS.
Look, I get it. But we need space porn before space pirates.
Careful now, you're getting into Trumpian "too ugly to be elected" territory.
On topic: reports are already coming in that what's left of Trump's Space Force (the ridiculous idea he started with isn't the topic anymore) is already well over budget.
Bolded for Trump. The CBO is surely not surprised that a Trump plan has no details and still costs well more than promised. The Administration has provided few details about what the three organizations that it has proposed would look like or how large they would be. For 2020, the initial year of creating those organizations, it has requested $306 million and 827 positions, and it has also stated that it plans to have the new organizations fully running within five years. If the organizations were the same size as the ones that CBO examines in this report, the Administration’s proposal would, when fully implemented, require 5,700 to 9,700 new positions for overhead and management, increase DoD’s annual costs by $1.1 billion to $1.9 billion, and incur onetime costs of $1.8 billion to $4.7 billion, CBO estimates (see the second, third, and fourth columns in the table above). Adding any new capabilities would increase those costs.
Incidentally, earlier in that same report, the CBO says 93% of the Space Force is Air Force. I believe @Skroe basically said that years ago.

I'll just leave this here.
Nice clip showing Ted Cruz crying to daddy...I mean the CEO of Twitter that he was getting dunked on hard on Twitter, and Twitter didn't include his responses in the "moments" (I guess that's some Twitter newsfeed thing)
Not only that, but also VERY CIVILLY imlplying that he hopes MSNBC host Chris Hayes that he hopes "pirates devour [his] liver".
What a fucking triggered snowflake.
He is referring to cyber pirates primarily and how down thru history pirates have existed to attack lawful enterprises from ships to individuals using computers. I consider those of foreign countries which attack our own infrastructure thru....piracy tactics, to be nothing more than pirates who have permission to do such by their own countries.
This also has happened in the past down thru history, with countries hiring raiding parties to attack their enemies and make it look like nothing but a act of piracy. As we continue to move more into space, the likelihood of criminals ( pirates ) moving there with us on the tails of those who have the means to, is very possible.

Why do we need military forces in space to deal with cyber crime, exactly? Can't that be handled from the terrestrial plan, which is where said cyber criminals be operating from? And how is a platoon of space-marines with lasers in the upper atmosphere going to stop cyber criminals working out of a warehouse in Queens?
It does sound silly at this stage of our ventures into space. But *shrugs, who knows what the future will contain? There has already been talk of developing private space trips to the moon and vacations on space stations. Sounds crazy I know. But several things have happened which would have sounded crazy years ago. Being prepared for the improbable can be a sound decision at times. You can disagree with it being good steps now and I can understand that position.

Not really seeing why this is in premise a bad idea. Every age which relied on a huge expansion of sea trade saw pirates to some extent. If the US wants to invest in some sort of space infrastructure it's also necessary to have a fleet to protect space trade.

Again, cyber criminals would not need to be up in space. The whole notion is lunacy. We're so far off of anything approaching the concept of piracy in space it's laughable.
What pirates are going to be able to afford the billions to get into space? How are they going to commandeer and force the launch of existing space vehicles? Are they going to stay up there, or make the trip up and back? How will they prevent themselves from being captured when they land? How will they resupply in space?
The whole thing is fucking stupid. Beyond fucking stupid.
No it doesn't, not at all. We've been flying people into the lower atmosphere (or higher?) commercially since the 90's. Commercial space flight, exclusively for the ultra-wealthy, has been a concept and thing being worked towards for decades. And thanks to major advancements from private companies like SpaceX we're getting damn close.
But ultra-wealthy folks paying millions for a ticket to go into the atmosphere for a few hours isn't going to mean that space pirates will be able to do so as well, much less have the technical expertise.
Then why aren't we preparing for actual threats like the impacts of climate change?
Why on earth should we be wasting our time preparing for irrelevant threats like this?
