    Alliance Hunter farming in Classic

    Hey folks

Wasn't sure whether to post this in the Hunter forum or here because it is Classic-related. So, here we go:

I'm planning on playing a priest main to heal in dungeons and raids. As such, I figure that having a dedicated farming toon may well be worthwhile over the long haul. Looking at hunter but there don't seem to be any guides out there that fall between "Hunter levelling 1-60" and "Hunter raiding/PvP at end-game".

What I'm looking for is a bit of discussion around the viability of the different specs and whether relying on your pet (aka Beast Mastery) is strong for end-game farming (e.g. Dire Maul / Maraudon; Tyr's Hand, etc.), and what kind of talent structure would be valuable for both delving into dungeons to farm and killing elites out in the world.

Depending on the flexibility of one spec, since I will likely be on a PvP server, gathering resources would also come with its own challenges while farming solo.

    Your input is much appreciated.
    For the Alliance!

You pretty much have this figured out. Hunters are a great farming class. BM is probably the best.

,,and should your farmer evolve into your main, switch to marksman.

EDIT: Also put enchanting on a level 5 bank alt. You can DE everything in the game at level 1 and sell the mats.

Best spec for high-end farming as a hunter is Marksman. What I did on my hunter (mc/bwl geared when I started farming gold on it) is to solo Maraudon. Entering the orange side and killing all the bosses. For most bosses BM might have been better, but for the princess MM definitely comes out on top as you'll need to kite her around.

Anyways I ended up being able to do around 4-5 runs (could only do max 5 an hour at that point) an hour netting me on average a 75-105g an hour from vending all the loots. Which was a very good way of making money in vanilla especially since you can do it solo and you won't run into anyone else trying to farm in the same place as you since it's in an instance. The only downside is that it requires some gear (especially against the crocodile since it hits like a truck) and some skill, since you can't really heal yourself and if you mess the princess manages to damage you somehow or you aggro some of the adds around her you'll get dazed (since you need cheetah to keep the distance).

Before this I always used to scrape by in game, walking everywhere on my 60% mount getting yelled at by my guild-mates waiting for me. But after discovering the solo maraudon run I got hooked and farmed a lot more then I needed.

Another thing that made me great money was killing other hunter's demons for their Rohk'delar quest, IRC I charged around 250g for the whole thing.

The last thing that made me a few bucks was soloing adds in naxxramas (requires an instance in which the first and second bosses in the spider wing are killed though, you either need a good guild or friends in one). There is a square room after the first boss with four stairs, most mobs in naxxramas run just a little faster then a hunter with aspect of the cheetah, but by running up the stairs and jumping off (the one thing mobs can't do) you'll get some distance on them. Back then you could kite mobs from other wings into the kiting room and slowly take them down. If you kill them you can get some great epics and scraps used for buying set pieces. I sold the scraps but the reason I did it was to farm the Misplaced Servo Arm for my rogue (which was my main), I had two accounts at that point and the rogue ended up laying dead on the middle of the room most of the time (I found out the hard way that some mobs had a tendency to sometimes switch to my stealthed rogue and totaly screw up the whole thing, and since it took upwards of 15 minutes of intense kiting per trash-group it wasn't worth it to take any risks). After two weeks I got my rogue his mace and a nice dagger to booth.

I wouldn't recommend the last bit to anyone, it was very unforgiving since the tiniest mistake or lagg-spike would result in my death.

There is also the option to farm certain tradegoods like black dragon-scales or dark iron ore in MC. I used to do the later on my rogue when everybody still needed fire-resist gear (because of stealth) but with FD a hunter could do the same. My friend mainly farmed pets, like the tiny whelplings. But I wouldn't recommend that.

In vanilla, I remember farming blue dragons in Winterspring. My hunter still has the Blue Dragonscale shoulder pattern. I tried selling the piece for a while as it is a unique transmog, but no one would ever buy it...

Good tips. I think I'll just try different things. Got to get the toon to 60 first, which is probably about six months after release anyway. May as well farm my way to 60.

Has anyone had any experience soloing LBRS/UBRS at all?

I remember solo farming Dire Maul (north?) on my mage (the ghosts), and Tyr's Hand elites.

Hunters are a top-tier farming class alongside warlocks and mages. Spec Marksman, bring along a bear, spec far enough in to BM to get the extra pet health and armor, and laugh at the game's silly notions of endangering you in the open world as you ruthlessly mow down everything before you.

Like Pancetta mentioned, if you're good enough at it, you can also sell 'Rhok'delar runs' where you party up with a hunter on those quests and kill the demons for them. Hunters also excel at the Wetlands Marathon if you want a side-gig escorting lowbie night elves for gold from their mains.
Be seeing you guys on Bloodsail Buccaneers NA!
