First, it's a matter of the voter lane that he appeals to, not the ideology itself. That lane for centrist voters is far wider than progressive voters. Which should not be surprising at all. After all, it was centrists, not progressives, that delivered the Democratic House. Justice Democrats can suck a dick, to put it crudely.

Second, I call him Mayor Pete because I don't take him seriously enough to bother remembering to spell his last name. It's really as simple as that. It's not him. It's the country. I don't think this country is remotely confident enough in itself to elect a (1) small city mayor (2) under 40 (3)who is gay (4) with a strange name. It'll go with the 72 year old fascist who makes it feel all warm and fuzzy inside about "America First" and things like that.

You don't prescribe enlightenment to a decadent nation. Mayor Pete is too many things this country, sadly, isn't at the present. He's why the race has been dominated by fading septuagenarians with fading ideologies, and has seen a notable lack of quality in other candidates in their 40s and 50s.

What person in their right mind wants to take over this mess? Better to just plan for your own escape plan for when the shit hits the fan. And that's how I give Trump 60% chance of re-election.

That being said, the Bernie Bros toxicity is a known, quantifiable factor. We're seeing that in these forums, in Bernie Bros' own words, and in polling - which is fascinating.

This is why i find James Carville ( Crypt Keeper look alike ) so interesting when he said 18% of the population controls 52 senate seats meaning that America will almost never become a progressive nation by structure. This is why a Sanders nomination would be cancer to the overall growth of the American empire regardless if he walks away with the nomination or not. Now regardless of whom wins the primary they will be labeled a Socialist which in my eyes has lost its luster with the majority of the nation except for those states whom are relying on that Socialism in the form of farm subsidies / payments.

Obama was repeatedly bashed as being a socialist. Reality no longer matters to Republicans or their propaganda and hasn't for a long time.

I think that the moneyed interests will defeat any single payer system so that means the next logical step is a public option which forces those insurance companies to die over time instead of a shock to a very very very very large part of the American economic system.
