Gigabyte GTX 1660 OC 6GB vs XFX Radeon RX 590 8GB Fatboy

I am considering upgrading my PC's Graphicscard:

I have a giftcard for a PC shop for €175 and could add a little extra to that and grab either a Gigabyte GTX 1660 OC 6GB for €249 or a XFX Radeon RX 590 8GB Fatboy for €239. I have a ASUS ROG STRIX 960 4GB card atm.

I have an 27" AOC 144 hz Freesync monitor @1080p which makes me lean towards the R590 card. However, the GTX card is a little faster and less power consuming. sitting at a 550W PSU I am worried that the R590 card will be too power consuming especially if I wanted to do further upgrades in the future.

On the other hand, I hear that wow is more CPU reliant, so I could also go down the route of grabbing a Intel core i3 7300 @4,0 GHZ for €180 - I am sitting on a Intel Core i5 6402P @ 2,8 GHZ atm.

What would you guys do ? What would you consider the biggest upgrade - I am only playing WoW btw.

    Thanks!

The 590 is a OCed 580 and yes they are hot and hungry.

I would get the 1660 and you can use gsync if you set up a custom monitor profile. It’s cooler and performs the same.

1660 for sure, way more power efficient and as always nvidia tends to perform better in popular titles.

250€ is Vega 56 territory so get that if your shop happens to have one around that price.

    Otherwise get the 1660.

The GPUs are functionally identical in performance, within margin of error in most things. Power shouldn't be a worry for you, 550W is enough. Quick napkin math would put you at ~400W with your CPU and the 590. These days you have to try super hard to go above 500W. I'm talking 9900k+2080ti only pulling ~450W. Neither are super good value though, and the 590's get super hot

As for buying a 7300 to replace your 6402p : If it performs like a 6400, don't. At all. Not only is the 7300 2 generations old, it's also worse than the 6400 by a decent margin. Upgrading your CPU would probably be a better bet for WoW performance though, but it'll be more expensive than the GPU since you'll need a new MOBO, CPU, and RAM

120w VS 225w TDP, yikes. I too would be sweating whether a PSU in that range can feed it.

Can you find out if NVIDIA supports your Freesync monitor? Because that is actually a thing now, depending on the display.

About those two CPUs you listed. I am not sure you would notice a difference? It may claim 4ghz, but apparently i3 is not so good.

1660, lower power consumption. About equal speedwise.
