If there is indeed a level squish I'm expecting a minor revamp to starting zones and some quest areas, but no more than that.

In 8.3. Honestly I really do like that concept art. Feels like something you'd see from a different game, and I really hope WoW can deliver on that level of detail.

Lucio's eyes always look weird.

To me they look more like the "episode models" they created for the animated shorts because the game models were too low detail. So, either these are cinematic renders, or OW2 is bumping up the fidelity and trying to look more like the animated shorts.

I just went back and watched the 2016 animated shorts panel. To make the shorts, they were given the original high poly meshes that character artists used to create the in-game character models, and then added things like displacement maps to bump up the detail, and replaced the game's geometry+shader based hair with simulated hair grooms.

8.1 interview with Ion. They said a huge revamp isn't on the table.

Zone design in Kul Tiras and Zandalar is beautiful, but traveling back to the old zones feels like a completely different game. Arathi and Darkshore overhauls were nice, can we get more?

It almost is a completely different game when some of those zones are 10 years old! The big challenge is that redoing old zones is a huge undertaking which takes resources away from making brand-new content for the current game. They're always looking for reasons or excuses to do it, such as a meaningful piece of new content in the old world (Warfronts), and they'd like to continue it for select zones over time, but it's hard to imagine deciding to update old zones over creating new ones; it wouldn't be in players best interests overall

Let me be very clear that I am very pro team revamp. But from what they've said it simply isn't going to happen in 9.0. And probably it shouldnt. If they do a revamp it needs to not be half-assed and be able to last another decade.
