I would say 40 (mount money grind) for the average player, but there is the 50s and their infamous lack of leveling content.

if they cant bother to level to 60 then they wont be able to raid either. good riddance.

classic is a mix of grinding and questing. most quest mobs give about 300 or so exp. a quest itself will reward like 3000. its pointless to solely rely on questing. if you find a spot to grind, and nobody is there, spend an hour.

I read "average player" as "average retail player, who is a tourist for classic and just going to try it out". Those people I expect to get their fill between level 10 and 20. 1-10 is pretty quick, but things REALLY start slowing down (from a retail perspective) right in the early teens. Getting to Westfall at level 10-11, and encountering orange mobs/quests almost immediately, and likely dying to gnolls and watchers and defias will get old really quick. Also, the lack of hand-holding (quest objectives, guides, quests to complete all levelling, etc.) I expect to wear these people out. By 15, and well before a month passes, I expect these people to have come and gone. Maybe sticking it out until DM or RFC, but likely little past that.

    NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS.

If Classic isn't your game, I'd rather you try it, realize this, and go have fun in retail - we certainly don't want to hear all kinds of complaining about how much "Classic sucks". I'll be glad that you saw this version and made your own decision, rather than have someone tell you what and what not to play.

There will also be those who plan to give it a good shot, and think this *may* be the game they want. These people will likely get to the mid 30's, maybe 40. However, as things begin to drag, as they continue to have to run everywhere, and, if on a PvP server, they start getting ganked like crazy in STV, it may be enough for those to realize maybe their interest actually was rose-tinted nostalgia. Whether they return to Retail, or some other games altogether, it's hard to say, but there will be more dropoff around that point (maybe three months in - assuming different play times, level of no-life, etc.)

    NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS.

Nostalgia is a factor for all of us, whether we admit it or not. Those of us who haven't done everything on pservs will still have surprises to discover, and may find there are aspects we mis-remembered. This isn't a big deal. If this isn't your game, don't be upset - do what makes you happy. This is a hobby, after all.

Then, there are those of us who already know Classic is what we want to play, what we've wanted for years, and who expect and welcome everything people say is a problem with the game. There will still be plenty of variance with playtime (we're older, after all), but there's still going to be a HUGE number of us who are in it for the long haul. This is me. I haven't logged into BfA for more than a few minutes here and there (to either get a better Classic tmog, or to run old dungeons/raids while waiting for release), and have been in this inactive state with BfA for about three months. I tried, I really did, but Classic is just calling too loudly, and nothing in retail feels worth anything. Getting a level in Classic is monumental, and actually feels important - in BfA, it's one less stumbling block before the end, but nothing feels drastically different at any stage of the levelling process. It's hard to care when the game gives me so little to care about.

For us, whether it takes us a week to hit 60, or a year (because certainly there will be people dinging 60 for the first time a year from now), we're in it for good.

    I. Can't. Wait.

I don't really think the level 40 mount is that expensive if you play normally. I didn't really do anything out of the ordinary and got it either at ,or a little bit past, 40.

The epic mount grind is real though if you don't plan for it.

My guess is level 60. It's either that or they don't play much at all. Once you find an interest in classic and you're already level 10, chances are you'll see it through to level 60 regardless of how slow/fast you do it. I know I'll have a 60 or 2, but who knows how long I'll play for. It's not like it's new content, its just been a while. I really have no clue when I'll burnout but I'm sure it's inevitable.

the lvl 40 mount on fresh servers with a new economy is a huge gold sink. you need to realize that everyone is starting from zero. if you plan to sell leather, nobody will have the gold to actually be able to buy it. all gold for the first few months will be very valuable.

you need it for your class trainer and that by itself will set you back hundreds by the time you are 60.

High 30s is when the existential dread begins to set in and you question your life choices. If you can internalise the pain you'll make it to max level.

eh, i disagree. a lot of classes get good around 30-40 and the excitement to hit 40 for the mount will probably spur people on. its a balance

Hard to say. We know from Blizzard statements that the average player back in the day quit around lvl 10.

And, since it's basicly free, there will probably still be lots of people trying the game, finding it to be something they dont care about and quit when the first imp cave is a bit frustrating. Especially, since I wouldnt really call the 1-10 experience "fun" for a lot of the classes.

So yeah, I expect a HUUUGE spike at lvl 3-10 (Just like every other game has). Then a much smaller portion of players leaving around lvl 20, when the world opens up a bit and the traveltimes become bigger, and then some more people around lvl 40-50, when the quest density drops of a cliff.

Wow, the amount of insecurity projection in this thread is impressive.

Personally, I think the average player makes it somewhere between 30 and 35 before they quit. Granted, this is AVERAGE. Most of the pure nostalgia people will quit after Deadmines or Wailing Caverns, so about 20-25, and will bring the average down, and the decline will level out somewhere around 45. Somewhere around 10-15% of people who start(read: make it out of the starting subzone) will make it to 60. I definitely believe the mode(most common number) of when people quit will be 20-25.

Of course, all of this is conjecture, but I like to try to be as realistic as possible in my expectations. I don't even know if I'll give Classic an earnest run, but I hope the result is closer to the obnoxiously optimistic prose than the aggressively negative crowd. Wanting something others enjoy to fail because it's not your taste is the lowest of the low.

Yeah, those are the players i meant, Those that have no intention of actully getting to 60, but are just here to check out the "new" thing

  19. #99
20-30 is when most people will stop.

You can get 18ish in a single day but between 20-30 you're still far from a mount and thats when the grind starts to happen and you get a feel if you are going to like your class or not. I think between 30-40 you are close to a mount so people will push through. and after 40 you tend to have a mount and want to push to 60

  20. #100
"I just testers" will either quit at 10-20 or reach 60.
Most of the "wau clasik, šou ausom samé as when I was 6" will quit at level 40 cause game too hard. Thats why we will need server merges in 3-4 month
