Lightbulb Tribute Zones: World PvP System

I am convinced that better World PvP could bring the game to new levels of popularity and offer a much more compelling experience than Warsong Gulch ever could. If there is one thing that would keep many top streamers and players interested in Classic, it would undoubtedly be a more competitive form of World PvP. World PvP in MMORPs has many problems which include faction imbalances leading to zerging, level imbalances leading to griefing, and poor rewards. However, that does not mean that World PvP can't have some semblance of structure.

PvP is about players killing players. It's not about gathering resources or camping objectives or fighting NPCS. What players want is to fight eachother. The idea is called Tribute Zones. Each contested region in Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdoms is chosen as a Tribute Zone. For 1 hour a contested region will be declared a Tribute Zone. It could be Redridge Mountains and Duskwood or Eastern and Western Plaguelands. Tribute Zones will usually consist of 2 or 3 adjacent contested zones. The rules are as follows when PvPing in a Tribute Zone:

Player kills award Tribute Coins. Players earn Tribute Coins based on their group size. Tribute Zones will happen a few times per day.

    - 1 man: 100 coins
    - 2 man: 50 coins
    - 3 man: 20 coins
    - 4 man: 10 coins
    - 5 man: 5 coins

A solo player would earn 100 coins for a kill. A 5 man group would earn 5 coins for a kill. Players can not loot coins in a raid group. Diminishing returns exist when a player is killed repeatedly by the same target. A 10% Tribute penalty is enforced on each kill to discourage repeatedly killing the same target. Coins are looted off other players that are killed in PvP. The objective of a Tribute zone is to earn the most Tribute coins before the 1 hour time limit is up. There is only one winner on both factions. Only one player or group will be declared the Tribute Zone Champion. The reward is a locked treasure chest with random goods inside. (BoE items, rare materials, mounts, pets etc). All participating players will earn an honor bonus at the end.The chests cost gold to be unlocked and can be sold or traded to other players. A leaderboard will track the Wins/Losses of participating players, as well as the Tribute totals in ongoing Tribute Zones. While Tribute zones serve as open world battlefields for Horde and Alliance, individuals players will also be competing against members of their own faction in order to become Tribute Zone Champion.

Top streamers and world PvP... are you joking?!

World pvp shouldn't have some reward behind it because people will undoubtably abuse it as we've seen many times before.

STV chest is already being camped by specific groups and that's barely a reward.

So basically, this is a post where not only are you trying to make camping "ok" but you are also going to reward people for it. Yea, I don't see this catching on. Good try though.

Better world pvp what they want. They dont care about bgs or arena. That is boring.

M'bad. Glanced over that you were talking about classic and the zones you were suggesting.
