What is the most pointless thing YOU did in Vanilla ?

By far, mine was, after a memorable encounter with a priest on the Thandol Span, it was to roll engineer for the sole purpose of throwing people off the bridge too….at level 22 (in those naive years, I have yet to experiment the routine, which was being savagely assaulted and have my corpse defiled by male blood elves paladins-I mean that I was not aware that 60s could off me with one spell) Boy, the lone 60 I ambushed was not in a cheerful mood as the device worked

Having diving competitions in the water pool on the way into Wailing Caverns. We used to dive down and see who would stay under longest before drowning, but if you died you lost. No idea why it was so much fun for teenage me.

Back when the real retail vanilla came out, I farmed mobs at like lvl 8, to get 20 silver to buy this bad-ass grey weapon I had seen on an undercity vendor, I was so happy with it too

I heard about getting spider mini pets from a friend, and I remembered the lootable spider eggs in the Stonetalon Mountains. I went directly there and started farming spider eggs at about level 24, convincing myself that this was the secret method of obtaining a cool mini pet. It was tough, I got a lot of junk loot, and I never found a pet spider.

tbh an im not trying to be glib here but literally all of it, the only reason i started playing wow was all my IRL friends picked it up, i spent 99% of it talking shit in trade because i found that more fun than doing anything in the game, eventually hit 60 after like 6 months because my irl friends got annoyed there buff bot wasn't in the raids, i did a few of those without actually enjoying any of it, mostly afk tbh. and it was all pointless as the friend group eventually tore its self apart over some drama caused by a woman as tends to happen to teenage lads groups, i hung around out of loyalty to the few who were left which pushed me through tbc then i was about to finally shelve the game when wotlk came out and i actually started having fun. then cata came out and spoilt it so i quit till like late mop when some uni guys begged me to rejoin, played on and off with them up till about 7 months ago when id finally had enough and jacked it in again.

so for me id say its all been a pretty pointless lesson in peer pressure.

    Delete my level 35 mage

Then rerolled a warrior. Simply because I was told I couldn’t raid as fire spec ever.
I was young and believed my cousin.

Technically, you would have struggled in MC…

In TBC, I actually did reasonably well with my feral druid in PVP (arenas) and got a full set of pretty sweet gear. So what did I do? Naturally, went to terrorize low-levels, of course!

There was this one draenei female in Loch Modan that, rather than killing, I just followed around CC-ing. Entangling roots, cyclone, etc. I kept emoting /stop, and /love. She finally got the point, and stopped running from me. I followed her around killing every single Alliance in the zone, including NPC's, for about 30 minutes. She even started /pointing to them and /patting me afterwards, lol. Ferals were strong in wpvp then, and I killed several level 70's that attempted to come to the rescue.

The hilarious thing was, I went to my realm forums the next day to find a post titled, "Hey Paw, check this out." It was a thread full of screenshots. People had been /whispering her with all sorts of obscenities, cursing her "pet Horde" and threatening to report her.

    Damn. Those were the days.

I was young and gullible. I tried to make real friends back in 2005, even wrote letters in game asking how was ones day and sending birthday cards with rewritten poems/letters from the authors I liked. Ended up playing with a few people up to around 2009, after that most of them bois/gals quit Writing this now as realms are down on maintenance, high af. You think you know what lies ahead but you don't

    Edit: spelling

Riding all over the world with friends right after we dinged lvl 40 and bought our first mounts. It was pointless, but was memorable.

I leveled a shadow priest for the sole purpose of mindcontrolling people off the Lumber Mill in AB. That's literally all I did with that toon for quite some time. Most of Vanilla really. And...it didn't get old.

    /waves at Sarah

Ran my lowish lvl Horde character to Moonbrook in Westfall just to stand on one of the roofs and snipe at the Messenger Alliance was escorting. It was pointless and pretty mean. I've gotten nicer since.

did something similar with a priest and opposite faction friends following me around, would MC someone and they would jump on them.

Brother you know me so well. I did the same thing. Back in 2005 on my first toon, a NE warrior. The Weapons merchant had the white quality claw weapons. I HAD to dual wield those weapons. I still remember a BFD run while wielding them. I was so happy. So naive...

I’m going to stretch this since I started playing in TBC.

I was on a new server that was basically like day 1 WoW for everyone. No one knew what they were doing.

I would get messages/whispers since I was a warlock to summon people here, there, wherever. I’d be in the AH... “Summon me to Booty Bay.” Um, I can’t, I’m in Ironforge. “Go to Booty Bay and get a group.” I would just laugh and ignore it.

Surprisingly these did not stop for about 2 months. People thought warlocks could just randomly throw people around the world at whim by clicking on the map. I am NOT making this up.

I finally got tired of this and did the ultimate dick move a warlock can make in my opinion. I was with a group in Netherstorm and we all had flying mounts. Here comes the whisper “Summon me to Shatt.” It was a level 5 character or something like that. This was it, I could take no more.

We invited the level 5 to group, flew up to a floating rock, dismounted and summoned him. He took the summon.

We all mounted up, kicked from group, /wave and flew away.

I never got another whisper to summon someone like that again.

    Wait vanilla blood elf paladins?

For me it was probably jumping through invisible wall to get to Hyjal, casting Unending Breath and swimming to VERY deep chasm near World Tree and then summoning random people from IF there.
