Benthic BiS + socket : are people really going for it ?

For my class for example, all but 1 piece of benthic gear has shitty stats, which a socket alone can not make it bis.
It's the effect that makes them bis regardless of stats.

In Raiding difficulties below mythic, you don't have to try to min/max, as you can very easily clear heroic without any benthic, thus you shouldn't be bothered to get the pieces. Or at least you don't have to try hard to get a socket for them.

And if you don't raid at all, you can better use your pearls to equip alts or buy the rank 3 reputation Essence.

Mythic raiding or not the benthic pieces and pearls have been around for a pretty long time now. I had all my benthic pieces with 3 upgraded prior to the raid launching. By the next week when mythic was open I was done with pearls on my main. They are extremely powerful pieces, but at this point if you don't have them depending on why you don't and how your raid progresses it probably isn't worth the headache. Not to say they aren't great in there.

They're easy to get, it just takes a lot of time. Have multiple alts and farm pearls there to buy the items, stockpile pearls on the main for upgrades.

I kitted my main in full socketed benthic, but the real problem with that gear isn't getting it - it's the realization that suddenly you only need azerite, weapons, and trinkets from your raid, pretty much. And that makes all the drops you get but know you're never going to use all the more infuriating. This is one fucked-up gearing system. And a half.

I do enjoy people acting like weaker or less skilled groups or groups with less time to raid shouldn't try to set themselves up for success. Now I understand it is often because they are pointing out it is poor play not gear that hobbles almost all normal raids and most heroic raids, but at those levels you can brute force almost all things so gear really helps bridge that gap.

Not no one, but if someone really dislikes the pearl farming, benthic lottery-gearing method, then they should avoid it.

Best gear depends on what content you're doing. For many classes they're BIS for the raid because of the effect which is only active in nazjatar and the raid. So if you don't raid other gear might be better. For other classes they're BIS because of the socket and because of that are also BIS for other activities but most sites don't tell you which case it is.

Benthic gear is better if you arent doing mythic because you arent going to get anything better in heroic. Also ive had them for months.

Honestly, at this point, you're probably fine just getting the benthic pieces without the socket. I don't know wth blizz was thinking of putting sockets on those things anyway, as all it does is increase the speed of player burnout.

I got 3 out of the 4 I could/should get before I got fed up with the bullshit lottery. I can't stand Nazjatar and farming pearls certainly didn't improve that..

Benthic gear should have not been able to socket.

One of my old guildies went through 1.7k pearls before he the the boots with socket. And that was only his 2nd piece ..

But if you are not raiding mythic, then you probably cleared Eternal Palace already. And in other content, ie. M+ and future raids, Benthic isn't "the best" anyway.
