American Sports: Kneel in Protest for America, but Kiss China's Ring

This week has been extraordinary, but especially in seeing how many organizations are willing to bend the knee to China. What is especially troubling to me is how American sports organizations such as the NFL and the NBA will happily, even eagerly protest the American national anthem, but those same organizations and people are eager to kiss China's ass. China: a country that can accurately be described as an Orwellian dystopia.

What is the disconnect? Why is it hip and trendy, especially among the left, to shit on their own nation and yet rush to gush all over nations that are objectively, demonstrably worse on almost every measurable level? Certain people just seem determined to reserve a special kind of hatred and contempt for the USA no matter what yet have an inexcusable forgiveness for other nations that have no excuse.

What 'leftists' are gushing about China?

And how does protesting police brutality and the unequal treatment of minorities by law enforcement "shitting on your own nation"?

    A) The NFL and the NBA are not eagerly protesting the National Anthem. Some athletes in those organization are protesting against Police Brutality and Racism during the National Anthem.

    B) The only person I see "gushing" over nations objectively worse than the US is Trump.

    C) Wishing that your country could be better in certain aspects is not "a special kind of hatred and contempt"

What? This is a retarded bait thread.

It was players who were choosing to protest. Not the NFL condoning it, in fact. The NFL tried to stop it at the bidding of the US president, which seems a 1st amendment violation to me.

It was also players/owners who said bad shit about China and then the NFL told them no.

It seems perfectly consistent to me. You're really reaching with your bait.

if I remember right, the NBA officially made it part of their rules that you can't kneel during the anthem pretty quickly during the controversy, whereas the NFL took fivever to do it. So, lumping the NBA with the NFL is pretty disingenuous.

Those organizations aren't protesting the national anthem. PLAYERS in those organizations are protesting what "patriotism" represents in a country that's only 50 years removed from a significant minority of the population actually getting equal rights under the fucking law.

Saying "the NFL is protesting the national anthem" is like saying "Blizzard is protesting the events in Hong Kong"...just to put the abject stupidity of your statement into some perspective.

You know when you were a kid and you heard about the Boy Who Cried Wolf? "Orwellian" and "1984" are wolf. Say it often enough, and no one's going to give a shit when "I really mean it this time guyz!!!"

Who on "the left" (or in general) is "gushing" over China?

How hard is it to comprehend that "problems here at home" are always going to be more important to people than "problems in countries on the literal other side of the world?"

Yea on one hand, you have some people in the US who will get upset if you kneel but ultimately you won't get hit super hard financially, on the other hand you have china who knowing their government may or may not ban you and cause you to lose a shit ton of money. Sucks, but sometimes you just have to be realistic and realize that doing whats "right" might get you fucked.

The protests against American policies were by players, and largely directly against the desires of the leagues they were playing for. In some cases, like Kaepernick, they sidelined his career pretty seriously in response.

The players, in those cases, are pretty comparable to blitzchung in this Hearthstone blowup. There's no real inconsistency being demonstrated between the two. Corporations are putting restrictions on the players' civil freedoms, to protect the company's bottom lines.

And yes; when I say "putting restrictions", I'm specifically saying they're establishing consequences for actions that are legally permitted. I'm agreeing they have the right to do this, but in the same sense you have the right to tell a 3-year old to "fuck off and die". You might have the legal right to be a dick, but you're still a dick. Just stating this pre-emptively to try and stave off people taking my comment above out of context.

Could we have honest arguments? If you want to debate things, that's great, but why do you guys always start from a place of dishonesty? If your argument requires that you twist the truth to absurdity to make it, maybe that says something about what you're arguing.

    Thread reported.

Just another bait thread designed to promote a hypocritical lie.

Many leftists don't like Western nations because they aren't centralized like China and they have those pesky things that get in their way such as democracy and human rights.

China is communist, Leftists are communist, ergo Leftists gush about China.

Or so goes the logic of people who don't have a clue about the American left, or liberals . . .

I mean if you're a leftists and you don't like centralization then either you're not a leftist or you're an utopianist/anarchist.

Do you even read the things you're posting, before hitting "post"?

There's absolutely nothing about left-wing values that encourages centralization. Plus, things like "democracy" and particularly "human rights" that you mentioned earlier, those are explicitly left-wing values.

Words mean things. You don't get to just make up new definitions willy-nilly.

Okay, if left wing values don't encourage centralization that's good.

Simple - because people do actually care for what happens in their own country, and China... they are just there for money.

Caring for what happens outside of your country more then for things happening inside of it would be weird.

Sometimes people actually can effect change in their own country, while protesting foreign countries never works (outside of direct military interventions).

No one is protesting the anthem.
No one is shitting on America by protesting police violence.

And the decisions that rich men make try to and continue making money in a country of nearly 1.4 billion people aren't really relevant to that topic.

Yes because we do not have an entire group in the US trying to make me go away by being the Christian ISIS? Because thats so patriotic. I while am on the right wing under normal political times consider China to be the absolute largest threat to the western world very much inline with a few other posters. Outside of a couple and i mean a couple of people who want to hold hands with China i can not with good faith say that many are in agreement with them.
