Nothing official but it wouldn't surprise me if it's Mendeln or, at the very least, a disciple of the Priest of Rathma due to the iconography and use of Blood Magic. All that's missing are their traditional garb of skulls on top of skulls to really lock that in though.

It's very unlikely to be Rathma though. He's still in the Void and carries a mountain of baggage against his parents.

Any source on that? From what I've read, he doesn't exactly like his parents. Neither of them.

Wasn't it Kim who said it's Rathma at blizzcon? Like we don't know how he's there, we just know it's him.

I'll go watch the diablo interviews with the front desk again later, and the panels if I have to -_-

He was sent there again? He already came back from there once, after his father banished him there, only to have Trag'Oul and Mendeln bringing him back.

I'm not sure but if Rathma is there then Blizzard really has a tremendous amount of explaining to do and if he's helping bring Lilith in to Sanctuary then that's bad news bears for everyone.

Shit, that's right! I thought it happened after the Sin War for some reason but instead he just faded away.

Also, it's way too early to even tell where they're going with this. This is a 2022/2023 game after all.

Well, having Lilith (and most likely Inarius) in game is a good reason to bring out first Nephalem. And regarding their motivation, they can make anyone go full mental, just like they did with Malthael.

Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.

Yeah, I doubt he is Rathma as well. Isn't he supposed to have black hair anyway?

This is interesting; I assumed (and I want to say this was mentioned at the panel) that he was a priest of the Triune, which made me scratch my head because a Triune priest would likely try to summon Lucion over Lilith, and why would he ask her to "save us"?

Also, Rathma priests are not generally prone to sacrificing the unwilling in hideous ways, as they work to preserve order. As best I can discern, Lilith was summoned to create a new race of Nephalem, but that is just because I haven't yet figured out another reason beyond she's cool to draw/write.

Do you really think that? I can’t imagine it’s gonna be that far off. Christ I hope not.

I'd expect a late 2021/early 2022, 2023 seems like a shit went bad date, though still possible.

When you think about it, it makes sense for Nephalem to want her back.

Lilith was banished for going on a killing spree as she wanted to protect her children, the Nephalem, from fellow rengage Angels and Demons who were concerned about their power growing too strong. The guy in the cinematic is rather huge and it is said that former Nephalem were larger in size, I guess he is one of them and therefore it makes sense for him to refer to her as 'mother'.

Since the Worldstone is destroyed and both High Heavens and Burning Hells are in desolate state after Nephalem was smashing the fuck out of them, they might actually bond to wipe the Nephalem out of fear. Summoning Lilith back to protect them in her own twisted way makes sense.

The game might actually be about Nephalem supremacists going on powerhungry rampage and the player trying to stop them for some reason.

I like that. I thought though, that the Nephalem of old were all long dead, and in D3 we reach the potential of the Nephalem, but it is certainly possible for some to have survived, or, as we may come to learn, a powerful Nephalem was resurrected by a cult that feels only the Nephalem deserve Sanctuary, sees the current humans as not worthy of the gift of the Mother, etc.

I absolutely do. It's clear the demo and gameplay shown was a heavily modified d3; you can look at the undead drowned female mob is clearly using Greed's skeleton and animations. Same with the chickens running on the floor; the same hop hop jump of WD chicken form. So, either they lied about the new engine, or literally nothing is ready. The "gameplay" section of the map they showed looks to be maybe a percent of the overall landmass they are trying to fill.

I admit 2023 is definitely my pessimism, but 2022 is likely.
