The Val'kyr ferry Vrykul souls from the Shadowlands to those planes. Odyn traded one of his eyes to a shadowy being (likely the Jailer) to be able to see into the Shadowlands, and made the Val'kyr. Helya was the first Val'kyr, and created both pocket dimensions (Halls of Valor and Helheim).

So, it's just another dimension that certain souls are ferried off to.

He actually did try to take Tyrathan Khort's soul in the Vol'jin novel. He also promised that he would be back to get his soul someday. In BfA, he also alluded to knowing where Cairne's soul wound up, implying he may have it.
3 hints to surviving MMO-C forums:
1.) If you have an opinion, someone will say that it is wrong
2.) If you have a source, there will be people who refuse to believe it
3.) If you use logic, it will be largely ignored
btw: Spires of Arak = Arakkoa.

Afterlife in fiction tends to be..odd and crazy

Hell in God of War its shown that The Greek Underworld, Helheim, AND Valhalla all exist at the same time. Chances are if the series keeps going we might end up seeing the Egyptian underworld, Shinto Reincarnation, and possibly even the Christian Heaven and Hell.

That's why the Shadowlands is broken up to several different sections but we only visit like a handful of them...

Helya was skilled at creating subdimensions, such as the Elemental Planes. The Halls of Valor exist in one of these subdimensions, and Odyn uses the Val'kyr to ferry souls from the Shadowlands to the HoV for his own purposes.

The Maw of Souls exist within the Shadowlands, in a pocket Helya carved out for herself, and since she is "the first Val'kyr" she's able to redirect the dead there if she wishes.

The Drustvar last leader did the same For Thros(?). A pocket in shadowlands

So if someone has the power and knowledge they can do the same.

my only guess is that souls don't immediately go to the arbiter upon death.

they've muddled everything up quite well with all of this.

Of course they are making this stuff up as they go along. That's what every author does. J. K. Rowling didn't even know how Harry Potter was going to end while she was writing it. The new Grindelwald stuff is material she didn't fully establish, so she has to be very careful with it. G.R.R. Martin may never finish his book series now because no matter how he decides to end it, people will whine.
Pretty sure J K Rowling started with the ending to Harry potter. Like, not the story, but she had really specific stuff planned for the end, before writing the first book.

This is what everyone does, no knowledge of the lore so they call everything a "retcon"

Odyn sacrificed his eye to an unknown entity in the shadowlands (we now know this entity works for the Jailer) in order to have power over death. He uses this power to capture souls before they are sent to the shadowlands and turn them into his warriors. He then gives them a "stormgorged" body uncorrupted by the curse of flesh. Helya does exactly the same.

I would also wager than he can do more than this, that he can take souls directly from the shadowlands, but he doesn't (I think).

I think I have that right.

How does all that work with the Shadowlands? If all the souls are now going to The Maw, does that mean that the Halls of
Valor with Odyn and the Maw of Souls with Helya are not seeing new souls?

Maybe it's been covered and I just missed it, but does anyone know how they all fit together?
Its only a place they go to if people collect them.

People do not automaticly go to the halls of valor when they die, they need to be retrieved by one of odyns valkyr, remember he gave up his eye to someone in shadowlands so he could see into there, and the jailor did it so he could see into azeroth (he is the one who traded for the eye)

    same with helya.

so bassicly they arte the people who can stop the souls before they leave, gathering them to their lands.

but if they arnt gathered, they go to the shadowlands.
