Well for reference, Italy has 24k infected with a population of 60M, that is like 0.04%. That we close down everything now in many parts of Europe seems quite the overreaction when the way to deal with it is as simple as washing your hands and <insert public hygine ettiquette>. Surely we could have starved it with less drastic measures...

...nope I guess not. Looking at some statistics in Berlin: The news reported like 400 cases of which 240 infected themselves in Berlin's night life scene. I guess we really have to take drastic measures when people are retarded enough to party during a (now) pandemic in closed spaces with large crowds. Seems like my personal sensibilities are hopelessly naive and I keep forgetting that half the population is by definition below average intelligence..

The flu has a reproductive number of ~1.3, but COVID-19's reproductive number appears to be 2-3x that.

Players might not forgive, but they most certainly pay for and play the game or they wouldn't be hanging around wasting time debating it. MMO-C has like 50 people going in circles around how shit WoW is, every expansion.

Games will definitely see some benefits from people being at home. In fact, I bet the same can be said for streaming services and such.

Do you really think that most server controls aren't remote? Unless the hardware blows up there's almost no need to be physically around a server to work on it.

I haven't played wow since maybe august of last year. Gave FF 14 a try for awhile. stopped playing that too. It does feel good not getting up early am to play before work, spending 3-5h a day gaming after work or spending half my weekend ONLY sitting on my ass gaming.

Secure vpns exist you know, many companies use them, blizzard probably already uses them. And there's been secure login tech for servers for many many many years. The only chance the servers shut down is something extremely bad happening to the building... like a fire.

Because Trump/ USA can't "buy" a company like that, especially when Germany has rights to block such an acquisition even if it was possible. The idea that it would be "exclusive" is obviously false on the face of things. The company denies it, the Ambassador denies it. Did the CDC maybe contact them about sharing their work? Maybe, no facts involved in the story so far. The FDA's process will take a while anyway, so they're trying to get something going maybe? Who knows.

The entire story is just a twitter storm that probably stems from a misread email or something.
