    Essential Employee?

Given the state of the nation (and world) shutting down except for what has been deemed "essential employees/business", are you currently working because your job is one of those that is considered an essential job or are you (hopefully) at home in self-quarantine?

For me, I'm in school full time but working part time as a nurse while going to school. My college officially shut down everything on campus for the rest of the semester and graduation is still set to go on as planned but they have notified everyone that THAT could change if the government recommendations are to cancel it still. All classes are 100% online now. Even classes that normally would require an in-person lab (biology, chem, etc) now have kits that have to be picked up by students to complete at home and submit the work via Zoom meetings or other venues to show you've completed it. Not sure how the art classes are handling it to be honest. My nursing job is offering overtime as much as you want. I'm not taking them up on it because I've got a heavy school load I'm dealing with this semester but I would have loved to have taken them up on it. My boyfriend is also considered an essential employee because he does in-home services for the county. Honestly almost all of my immediate family is considered essential employees and haven't got to stay home.

Working from home, still able to go into the office if I need to though (Germany).

A mix between home office and coming in. We are still supposed to work in germany in most industries and the way my workplace is set up I have a pretty low risk anyway. If I get it then it would be because of the shopping.

You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

Im am working at home, my job for sure is not essential but there is little difference if I was in office or at home, so we are only indirectly affected. But if I wanted to I still could go to the office, but why not stay at home and do your dailies while conference calling?

My office is considered essential, but we've reduced it from 40 to 5. Since its government everyone is getting pay while home. Both my kids, 2nd grade and Kindergarten are getting assignments online. I don't feel like they're learning new content, just reinforcing what was taught earlier in the year though.

I'm doing IT support for a government bureau. We make sure others can work from home, but so far it involves coming in every day.

that's what we're doing for the hospital right now too. However most of us still have to go in to work. Because I do alot of break fix work at night in the hospital.

Working from home but there's almost nothing to do (eu logistics).

Almost lonely in the office (civil engineering study, essential to an extent as we are working on the maintenance of several essential transportation infrastructure).

We've made provisions for home-office, and most people are away, with only a handful left. As pretty much all the other young dads among my colleagues happen to have their wives working in healthcare, with all schools and daycare facilities closed except for families where all parents work in healthcare, those were the first to go. For most of the young people working at home was preferable to the commutes, but for a few it was not feasible (no internet, apartment too small for workstation, etc...).

As some colleagues are being mobilized by the Civil Protection to help the healthcare infrastructure, more work is left for us.

I work for a very large company that has always maintained a robust contingency plan for events such as this. I was deemed essential when we wanted to implement a shift plan to maintain a skeleton crew presence in the office, but that was scrapped before my turn came up so I've just been WFH for 3 weeks now. Even our "non-essential" staff have been working from home for that time as well. Some of my coworkers expect we'll be doing this through the summer...

Working remote, applications developer. Company I work for is considered essential since we provide payroll and benefits to other companies.

I am at home, almost positive I had it but no tests available. I am still working but kinda was hoping to get laid off so I could take a mental break. I went from surgery to 8 weeks of recovery to being so sick for a month where I almost died then back to work and I need a fucking break lol.

Working from home for the past 3 weeks and it's staying that way to at least June 1st. I work as a BI Specialist at an university. Building is still open in case someone really has to work on location, but there are no school activities (lessons and stuff are online now) and if you can work at home, you have to. We had a few corona cases among staff and students already, so about 98% of people are staying home atm. Having a job like mine and being an introvert and gamer, this isolation stuff is heavenly

Debt collection is apparently an "essential financial service", so to the office I go, and work I do.

There's always plenty of work. I'd prefer more people who can pay.
