A single movie to put in a time capsule.

Let's say that the plot of Titan A.E. is happening and we're leaving earth for another planet because Earth can no longer sustain life and you have to pick ONE movie to take with us to show the generations that will never have seen or been born on Earth, but another planet.

Nah but there is plenty oh plenty of classics, from that list the godfather perhaps.

I'd want something that captures the human condition well, but isn't overly cynical. On your list, that'd be Forrest Gump.

    Troll 2 or Mortal Kombat

Independence Day. Not the best movie ever, but a good one with a great message. "Back on Earth, we had something called America. And it. Kicked. Ass."

I assume we talk about US movies. Blade Runner then. Visuals and other artistic merits aside, like good book, growing up, you discover new layers and meanings of the story. US cinema used to create masterpieces like that from time to time. Not anymore.

    The matrix

Because it explains how everything is a matter of perspective in life.
How easy it is to be blind to another possible realities someone else is living.

With the action and "chosen one" bullshit on the mix

    Perfect movie.

Alex Jones Endgame... would be the perfect movie for the time capsule

Probably because they make no money. Like the first bladerunner and its VERY good sequel bladerunner 2049. Both massive flops because they are "long and boring" according to movie goers.

First of all, GREAT fucking question for a thread.

Second, clarification - what's the goal of the movie? To show what life was like, or just a representation of what our entertainment was like at the time, or other?

    American Psycho.

I was thinking Forrest Gump as soon as I saw the thread title.

Forrest Gump or Shawshank Redemption, can't decide, both are brilliant.
