They attacked him first. There was no reason for them to defend themselves as Kyle wasn't threatening them, Self defense means in retaliation, not attacking someone unprovoked.

They saw Rittenhouse shoot a guy. Are they not entitled to defend themselves against an active shooter? How can you possibly claim attacking an active shooter is unprovoked?
