    Armchair activism

Do you feel like you're changing the world when you're sharing shit in facebook and twitter?
    When you're fighting people online?
When you're changing your facebook picture to the cause to support for the next 2 weeks?

Do you feel your actions are actually making the world better, or do you secretely do it as moral masturbation but would be scared to admit your social contributions are meaningless?

This would be a great thread if it was reworded better in the OP

Could go with something like, "Brocialists desperate for AoC to notice them, start flaming GEN-OT/politics".

This kind of poetry almost writes itself.

Everything you do affects the world. Look at BLM - the movement started like what, 4 years ago and nothing changed - then this year it became one of the most important movements in the country. Every movement starts somewhere. Facebook and Twitter are (great) places to get people to acknowledge your voice.

Well, sharing information on a global platform can and has tremendously changed the world.

Not sure why that is worded so hostilely as though the contra was untrue when we just had a president who used social media as a bully stand for four years and in recent years seen upheaval abroad fueled and shared online; Hong Kong, Egypt, Venezuela, Chile, Greece, etc.

I never changed my Facebook photo or fought with anyone online. I don't what that is about but seems like a joke on your part.

Nonetheless, it's important anyone stumbling around the internet is reminded speaking up/out on social media absolutely has an effect on culture, the world.

It doesn't hurt anyone if people want to show their support for a cause. Their "moral masturbation" may not be "making the world better"...but complaining about "virtue signaling" accomplishes even less.

Some of my viewpoints have changed because of what others have posted here. So yeah while not much some change is being done.

Spreading awareness is effective. One person tells someone one thing or shows their support, others see it and spread the message/cause, it spreads, so on and so forth.

You don't need the loudest or most visual to help grow an idea. People are ignoring the roots of marketing which is applied sociology.

Now it's easy for purposeful and accidental charlatans to hide among people with good intentions. People who simply just from one cause to other more concerned with the optics of supporting something than actually supporting it. They tend to be the first who cry slacktivism because they know how to hack the game all to well abs and don't want to dilute the acclaim they're trying to farm.

I don't know if I'm making the world better, but I approve of any type of masturbation.

What gets shared on Facebook is super important to powerbrokers these days. It can make or break an election. So I'd say sharing things you are passionate about does make a difference.

It definitely does work to some degree, there is bad with the good as always though.

    Trump would certainly approve.

    ...yes, I went there.
