How much crime can a nuclear state can get away with without shots fired?

How much can a nuclear-armed country get away with without such an obviously open declaration of war? China has (accidentally or not) unleashed a biological nightmare on the world in 2020 and commits genocide in its borders. But in a recent response to people wondering if they want a war, they said they aren't going to do anything like that unless someone shoots at them first. The CCP even claimed they would prefer initiating diplomacy if someone shot at them first.

It's made me wonder how many crimes against humanity or life a nuclear state can get away with under that gesture without consequence. Does it pretty much mean anything as long as they don't do what Hitler or Tojo did?

I mean, Russia has killed/sanctioned killing American troops recently. That would be a freaking declaration of war, but they're a nuclear state and have aggressively said they'll fire nuclear missiles without question if they feel threatened recently.

Something like that has made me wonder what some countries can get away with the threats of nuclear weapons.

1) No we aren't. We are in a classic rivalry situation that is typical of pretty much every point in history where there are multiple major political powers.

2) Even if we were, there is a huge difference between "Cold War" and actual war. Suddenly attacking China is not going to make anything better.

3) Try making an original thread for once. If you really want to bash China, go find something we haven't talked about and make a thread on that. How about China's claims in Tajikistan, and how they are leveraging that. Or maybe you could make a thread on how Xi is working on turning Mongolia into a pure client state (More then it already is). The point is, there is a lot more nuance then "We should attack them".

It depends on the underlying cause of their fixation.

China is simply too huge and powerful, so it can do whatever the fuck it wants and get away with it.

The only way to deal with it is a powerful trade blockade, which is a tall order - US alone is not enough. US certainly has some serious ammo there, but China is bigger than whatever US can throw at it economically without feeling some real pain itself.

EU is too impotent to do anything, so everyone and their mothers just close their eyes on China.

China itself is smart enough to not taunt everyone - they know they are on a right track towards effectively taking over half the world, they don't need to do these pathetic shows of power like Russia in some desperate attempts to be relevant. Like Russia, China does plenty BS in the shadows, but unlike Russia - China is all too willing to show a smiley face towards everyone, which is a big showstopper for many.

While technically the US still leads in share data processing capacity, the Chinese are rapidly catching up and overtaking through the ability to build and maintain more data centers.

Not to mention their near monopoly on 5G technology.

Furthermore, the 5g company that the US is working on banning worldwide is working on an operating system to replace Windows, and an internet to use instead of the current US dominated one. If these are successful, then the bottom lines of many US companies will take quite a big hit. China is in the US-China economic war to win it. We are in it to try and keep China buying US products for as long as we can. Long term prospects favor China by quite a lot.

We either need to give up on the idea of the current economic war with China, or fight the one we are in. Right now we are talking a lot about what we could possibly do sometime in the future to maybe fight this war, while China is fighting as if their life depended upon it. Article after article on Yahoo details the different things we could do to take action against China - bank sanctions, seizing Chinese assets like we did the Iranian - Venezuelan oil tankers, etc, and oh yeah China is aware of these threats and are working on ways to deal with the threats.

Meanwhile they take smart tactical moves to appeal to Trump's ego (like buying record amounts of corn recently) to keep the US off balance, and we react by not stopping the war and also by not waging the war that exists. Easy win after easy win for China.
