Shadowlands Beta - Upgrading PvP Gear with Honor

Official Blizzard Poll - Choose the Next Shadowlands Mount

Shadowlands Beta - Upgrading PvP Gear with Honor
PvP testing is currently underway on the Shadowlands Beta, and we are able to test a new system to upgrade PvP gear in a similar fashion to upgrading your Benthic gear in 8.2!

    PvP Vendors
Shadowlands once again introduces the Honor currency, which is earned through PvP along with the more coveted Conquest currency. Honor currency can be used to purchase rare quality entry PvP gear with an item level of 158, while Conquest currency is used to purchase epic quality PvP gear that is item level 190.

    Upgrading Your PvP Gear
Next to the PvP vendors is another NPC that will allow you to spend your Honor currency to upgrade the gear you purchase from the PvP vendors. Currently, only the Honor system is implemented, but we assume you will be able to spend Conquest currency to upgrade your conquest gear as well.

    How it Works
Much like upgrading your Benthic gear in 8.2, you simply talk to the upgrade vendor and place the PvP item into the UI menu. You will be able to upgrade a piece 5 times, maxing it out at rank 6. Honor gear is item level 158 at rank 1 and finishes at item level 190, which is the equivalent of rank 1 conquest gear.

    • Rank 1 - 158 Ilvl
    • Rank 2 - 164 (+6 Ilvl)
    • Rank 3 - 171 (+7 Ilvl)
    • Rank 4 - 177 (+6 Ilvl)
    • Rank 5 - 183 (+6 Ilvl)
    • Rank 6 - 190 (+7 Ilvl) (Item turns from rare to epic)

    Honor Costs
There is a different Honor currency cost depending on the item you wish to upgrade:

    • Two-Handed Weapon
      • Rank 2 - 2625 Honor
      • Rank 3 - 3150 Honor
      • Rank 4 - 3675 Honor
      • Rank 5 - 4200 Honor
      • Rank 6 - 4725 Honor
    • One-Handed Weapon, Head, Chest, Leg
      • Rank 2 - 1500 Honor
      • Rank 3 - 1800 Honor
      • Rank 4 - 2100 Honor
      • Rank 5 - 2400 Honor
      • Rank 6 - 2700 Honor
    • Shield, Offhand
      • Rank 2 - 750 Honor
      • Rank 3 - 900 Honor
      • Rank 4 - 1050 Honor
      • Rank 5 - 1200 Honor
      • Rank 6 - 1350 Honor
    • Shoulder, Hands, Waist
      • Rank 2 - 1200 Honor
      • Rank 3 - 1440 Honor
      • Rank 4 - 1680 Honor
      • Rank 5 - 1920 Honor
      • Rank 6 - 2160 Honor
    • Neck, Ring, Cloak, Wrist, Trinket
      • Rank 2 - 900 Honor
      • Rank 3 - 1080 Honor
      • Rank 4 - 1260 Honor
      • Rank 5 - 1440 Honor
      • Rank 6 - 1620 Honor

Oh my. What has honor come to... a currency to upgrade gear... again... they should rename it.

I like the progressive costs. Actually gives you a reason to play battlegrounds on fresh characters, and if this schema carries on into new seasons, on old characters as well. Would be pretty sweet if there was a period at the start of each season when it would be beneficial for everyone to grind out new honor gear again. I assume that with those numbers it would be quite nontrivial task to do, so most people would do maybe weapon and a few other pieces.

10/10 direction, waiting to see how Blizz manages to fuck this one up.

What about m+ upgrading? Its annoying having to regrind the same loot over and over again but just higher item level. Especially each new season.

They should add a currency from m+ aswell that you could farm to upgrade m+ gear

I'm down for this, looks good.

This is fine. PvP Power and Resilience is 100% required for PvP gear to function as it should. If it isn't implemented, this entire system is a waste of time.

These uprade prices cannot be final, or they need to drastically increase the amount of honor rewarded.

You need over 150k honor to upgrade all slots, and you get like 30 ish honor for a win?

Did they changed anything with the Honor Level System? or its still takes years to get Honor Level 500 mount?

No need, as you get better pieces for finishing higher keys.

Well, upgrading the same item with currency = getting it while doing higher keys.

thats the entire point of new seasons. fresh start.
Its like asking to keep the score of a soccergame from previous match they met so you dont have to make 3 new goals.
Also im pretty sure that every new season of pvp this becomes irrelevant until you are fully geared.
This is a way to keep pvpers happy and not having to farm m+ like they have now. And it makes m+ puggers happy not needing to take people who has no intention of learning the abilities etc of the dungeons, they just want that item so they can pvp.

    This seems really expensive

I don't hate it. It gives you drive to PVP & rewards you with better gear for putting the time in. Seems like it'll be alright for the majority pending final number tuning for honor earned/spent

As several streamers who have access to beta already mentioned, fully upgraded honor piece has same ilvl as LFR gear. Since pvp gear has no special pvp-only stats, m+ grind will still be the fastest way to gear up for pvp, and you will be able to target specific stats in m+, too. Hilarious stuff.

Assuming conquest upgrades are yet to be put in only going to lfr for honor seems about right as long as the conquest upgrades go up to mythic and the base is raised a bit.

Will we have a big marker/compass to guide us so we can find the pvp vendors?

And that’s how they wrecked it. Man I was excited for this system, but if the max upgrades are the same as lfr, then it’s a waste of time to grind pvp for gear. The amount of time required to get pvp gear is way more than the time to get lfr gear. BFA has the same stupid problem.

Lets hope this is indeed what is going to happen. I worry about base conquest ilvl matching LFR ilvl though. Basic blue honor piece was as competitive as gear from normal raid, back in WoD. Conquest gear made you as good as heroic raider (in PvP combat only, of course). It looks like we are not going to see that system implemented again so it is really interesting to see how Blizzard intends to solve this problem.

I’d say if there gonna keep the same speed to get a conquest piece weekly as Bfa That they should start some where inbetween normal and heroic before upgrade as the 500 conquest was super easy. If there gonna increase it a good amount then a base of heroic seems about right.

As far as honor gear goes with ending at lfr seems fine as it’s just a crappy stop gap but the honor gains need to be way higher then bfa or the upgrade cost way lower.
