Potatoes are saviours. Fried potato? There's pommes chateu, Hasselbackspotatis, Potato skins, Potato mash, roasted...

Potatoes are a great food source. I agree, that fried, is the best way. Second would be mashed. I would join any crusade to go against any crusade against potatoes.

I think potatoes are overrated. They are western rice. I like both. But I think calling them the best is like calling salt the best spice. Staples, workhorses, not the best though.

Potatoes are awesome.
I love a Baked Potato. It is a quick inexpensive and tasty meal. Poke with a fork. Rub a bit of oil on it throw it in the oven. Serve with a bit of Sourcream and cheddar.
A nice potatoe soup with crumbled bacon pieces. What is not to love?
Gnocchi fried in butter with Sage. Yes please.
And lastly who does not enjoy a nice Potatoe Salad? Their are so many different types.
Not evening going to go into the delight that is potatoe Noodles or Dumblings.
Here is some Advice. For rare occasion you got leftover Potatoe dumblings. Roll them in suger. Fry them in butter until a nice crust forms. I know it does not sound good. But trust me. I would like to add, baked potatoes are gross and only a delivery system for whatever you put on them be it salt and butter and cheese with all that other good stuff. If you eat a plan baked potato you're a monster. Facts.

I tend to favor rice and pasta over potatoes, but made right they are delicious. I recall I stated my favorite side-dish to be new potatoes served with butter and salmon.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

If you think potatoes need to be fried to taste good, you never had good potatoes.
Don't buy the cheap 10kg sacks from a discount supermarket, go to a farmers market where they sell loose potatoes. Research their varieties.
There are so many ways to cook potatoes without frying that you can have them every day.
